Edit: Guess not. Really thought I read only the 120 fps showings were compromised. Even in 2K, it was stunning Quote:

IMAX laser should be 4K 60fps (they create custom DCPs), but I think standard 3D showings are 2K 60

Wow. If the 60FPS version I saw was only 2K, the 4K HDR disc should be an all-timer because I thought it looked incredible visually.

Got to see this in 120fps and it was enjoyable once I realized the projector wasn’t messing up but I got the wrong 3D glasses. The guy at the ticket taking place didn’t give me glasses and when I went back he was gone and I just grabbed the real3D glasses.
I really had fun with the movie! I didn’t mind the high frame rate and the 3D worked. I’m still not completely won over by either but I didn’t mind it. I liked the story, and the action and performances! I thought it was the exact kind of fun sci-fi movie I was expecting! |

Just saw this in 120fps. I’d give it 2.5 as a movie, but raise it to 3.5 with the 120fps. I thought it looked amazing, the bike chase was stunning.
Anything showing water was so clear and gorgeous. Probably the best 3D I’ve seen. The CGI/de-aged (whichever it is) Will Smith was effective for the most part, except for the final scene where it looks really poor. The story was OK, I was never bored but it wasn’t anything special. It’s not a film I would recommend unless you can see it in 120fps 3D. Last edited by BKavett; 10-17-2019 at 02:00 AM. |

I liked it more than the reviews suggested I would. Maybe they made a mistake by suggesting this was something like a Bourne film, because it felt more like a throwback political thriller with Clive Owen instead of Max von Sydow.
As usual, I find 3D to be a useless gimmick, completely irrelevant to my enjoyment one way or the other. The 120FPS didn't bother me, but it didn't do anything for me either. It's a solution without a problem to solve. I've never heard anyone say, "I would have liked that movie if only the frame rate was higher." |

I saw the 3D + 60fps HFR version and thought it was pretty awesome. First time seeing a movie in that format and it looked extremely life like and vibrant. Some of the best 3D I’ve seen in any movie. The action sequences are great as well; I preferred them to John Wick. The visual effects that went into creating young Will Smith are really impressive. The character is able to convey so much emotion and I loved the dynamic between the two Smiths.

I watched this in IMAX 60 FPS 3D. I enjoyed the experience. Took a while for my eyes to get used to what I was seeing, but maybe that's why the first 30 min are fairly slow? Anyway, the movie is fairly simple and kind of corny, but I liked the experience. The 3D was great. People complain about the look of HFR, but being a fan of some of Michael Mann's 2000s output, it didn't really bother me much. I respect Ang Lee's (and Mann's) position that with all the new filmmaking tools, why are we still making movies look like they did 50 years ago? I thought the first motorcycle chase/battle between the two Wills was great fun, as was their fight in the catacombs. And the CGI on the young Will is overall very impressive. He looks terrible in the final scene though (he looked more like Miles Morales in the Spidey PS4 game).
The story definitely feels like something from a mediocre late 90s/early 00s action movie that might have starred Arnold or Jet Li, and the script is fairly silly. Don't expect characters to react or interact in any way resembling human behavior. Everyone seems surprisingly matter-of-fact about everything. But I like the supporting cast which includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead (maybe the real reason to see this in HFR 3D?), Benedict Wong, and Clive Owen. Also cool to see Ralph Brown (from Withnail & I and Ric Ole in Episode I) make an appearance in a big Hollywood movie! |

It's a bit of a shame this couldn't be more polished, and therefore better received as I do think it left the door open to sequels in the future. Imagine a movie where

Will Smith's 'Gemini Man' is a $75 million flop
Will Smith's new sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man could cost its studio a massive $75 million loss, following another terrible weekend at the box office...the movie opened in China over the weekend, and it was hoped that the world's second biggest movie-going market could pull things back from the brink, but it seems it has flopped there too Add on a significant amount for marketing and advertising, and Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Chinese film group Alibaba Pictures is looking down the barrel of a $75 million loss... https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...n-loss-1247292 |

24fps is stupid. Every film should be shot at 120fps. Modern OLED TVs have a native 120fps refresh rate. Motion is really rubbish at 24fps. It's hilarious reading reviews for this. They all seem to go over the top lauding how wonderful 24fps is and how fake anything higher looks. There's bugger all cinematic about crappy jerky motion.
