Just wondering if anyone else is paying attention to this great tournament. Honestly, I didn't know what to think about it when they had the first tournament, but I have to admit that I love it. I got tickets for all six games at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, and the price I paid for them was worth it just to see the USA vs Canada game on Saturday afternoon. It was one of those games where you felt privileged to be there. The Stadium was vibrating and there was feeling, something indescribable, that made for one of the most amazing 3 hours of my life. It was the first baseball game I've been to where in the top of the ninth the whole stadium of people were on their feet, all 42,000 of 'em. Not one sat down until Jason Bay popped up.
Going to the game tonight between USA and Venezuela. Stayed for the Italy and Venezuela last night, but left around the fifth when it looked like it was going to be quite one sided. Plus, we got out just before the Maple Leaf game ended, so the traffic downtown was pristine. Fifteen minutes later and it would have been a zoo. |

I'm just a huge baseball fan, so getting to see some of the best players in the world play under one roof is why I'm going to the games. And people in Canada don't like Derek Jeter at all. His face showed up on the Jumbotron and the whole place booed, and his face was only up for a second or two. Classic. I have no problem with the guy, he demands respect as being one of the best ball players in the last ten or more years, but most there were jays fans too, and the Yankees are division rivals. Another great moment was when everyone started Chanting "MVP. MVP" when Justin Morneau came to bat, and of course Dunstin Pedroia was on team USA. ![]() That being said, I still think Pedroia deserved the MVP just as much if not more than Morneau. |

I have really enjoyed it. It was great seeing the Dutch beat the Dominican Republic yesterday. People really should take some time and check it out. Many of the players seem to be taking it more seriously than the last time it was held in 2006.

I think the prestige of the series has certainly gone up, since it's actually pretty competitive, and as the Netherlands showed no game is a sure win. I've enjoyed it quite a bit, something about seeing players with USA on their chest and actually getting excited is all I need.

I felt more intrigued by the last one, this one hasn't gotten me paying too close attention quite yet which is weird since some games are taking place in Toronto. Having said that, I caught the end of Saturday's USA/Canada game and it seemed pretty cool, even though both times I turned it on the States loaded the bases, then upon changing the channel when I thought both times they'd blow the game open Canada got out of the innnings!

I was at the Venezuela vs USA game last night, and it was pretty sad score, but it was nice to see some long ball and some decent pitching by the Americans. There couldn't have been 20,000 people there, but it was a 8pm start on a Sunday night. Got home around 2am because the game took almost four hours to play with all the runs being scored, and was coupled with the late start. Good game though, I love it when a ton of runs are scored.
Venezuela has the offense in the top five or six guys in the order, but after that their talent really falls off. Their pitching isn't very good either, especially their bullpen. They used almost every relief pitcher they had and not one had an ERA under 5 from wherever they played last year, while all the American relief pitchers were under 3.20, and most around 2.80. Not sure if I'll make it the Canada vs Italy game tonight, but I hope to. Starts at 6:30pm, which is kind of early, but I can still make it. I've been paying attention to the other pools too, and great things are happening! |

WBC is a waste of time, the stadiums are half empty, the ratings are crap, and the players arent at full speed. If they really wanted to have a true tournament they should once every 4 yrs shutdown the league and play the WBC in july during an extended allstar break, about 10 days, with that every player will be at full speed and playing at there best.
