Transmission will release the much acclaimed (and decried) Jennifer Kent film The Nightingale on Blu Ray this coming December.
I'm so pleased and grateful to them. As the film didn't perform well at the box office I thought it would be a DVD release so the Blu Ray release is a welcome surprise. http://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/The...018/dp/6220607 |

Cinema and streaming release in the UK on 29 November, so it may not even get a DVD. I saw it a few months ago at Sundance London - tough watch but on the basis of one viewing a frequently impressive one.

Good to see its in its original aspect ratio. When I saw it at the SFF it was presented 1:37:1 its correct and intended aspect ratio, however, when I saw a trailer at the cinema a few weeks later it had been cropped and shown in 1:85:1. I checked with a friend who saw the film in its general release at the cinema and he confirmed it was shown in its correct ratio.

Yes, that rating raised a lot of eyebrows. It deserved a hard 18.
Just another example of inconsistency of the decisions that the OFLC make. This film contains multiple graphic rape scenes, multiple graphic murders including the murders of children and very strong language throughout. It gets an MA15 rating for what is unquestionable R rated material, whilst Dragged Across Concrete with Mel Gibson (which was released around the same time) gets a R rating for one scene of strong violence - it should only have gotten an MA15 at the most (I'd even argue for an 15 rating for it). Go figure. Even Netflix can't seem to classify their films properly. I just finished the very entertaining Dolemite Is My Name and its rated R - what for? There is a fair bit of racy language (the nudity is incidental). They should have rated it either M15 or MA15. It is not R rated material by a long shot. |

JB Hifi do ship to the UK and I've had no issues with them - I've also bought at least one CD from them too. One order was hit with a customs charge but others which might have been, didn't. And I can't imagine The Nightingale not getting an 18 certificate from the BBFC, though they haven't passed it yet. (Dragged Across Concrete also had an 18, by the way. Dolemite is My Name is a 15.)
