Default Home Theater Upgrade...

I'm planning on eventually upgrading my HT some time later on this year, if all goes according to plan, hopefully. More like a massive upgrade compared to my HTIB! Here's the equipment i plan on going with, so far:

Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K
Emotiva Audio UPA-7
Paradigm Monitor 7's (fronts)
Paradigm Monitor CC-290 (center)
Paradigm Titan Monitor (surrounds)
SVS SB12-Plus (Sub)

At first i'm just going to stick to a 5.1 system, but i have room to grow with the Emotiva later on if i want. I'm thinking the UPA-7 should be enough for these speakers. 5 Channels @ 8ohm = 140w. Even when i go to 7 channels @ 125w should still be good enough, right?

I know the Paradigm site recommends the ADP-390's to be used as surrounds, but they are pretty pricey and more then what i want to spend for surrounds...they cost more then the fronts! I think the Titan's should work well and are priced within the price range that i want to spend. Again, i'm open to suggestions on my equipment list from you pro's out there!

There is a Paradigm dealer within 4 miles of where i live so i do plan on listening to these speakers, but i've heard nothing but great things about them.

Sweet set-up there. I don;t even think you need Titans for surrounds, the v.5 and v.6 Atoms are bigger and more powerful than earlier versions and really sound great.

Other than that, enjoy it. No reason to question yourself. I would be happy to have that set-up in my home.

Do you have a lot of room behind your seating position? How big is your room? You may not even need a 7.1 system. A proper 5.1 system will always sound better than an improper 7.1 system.

Well, the living room at my apartment now, can only do a 5.1. But, this HT will be going in my new place so there will absolutely be a room that will allow me to have a proper 5.1 possibly a 7.1. I should of mentioned this in my OP. I'm not really stuck on having a 7.1, but if the room allows it too, i'd like to have the equipment capable of handling it.

Well said though! I'd rather have a proper 5.1 over an improper 7.1! Wish i could enjoy this setup sooner then later, but i'll have to wait...Just trying to spec things out for now. So you think the atoms should be fine? The titans might just be a bit much now that you mention it...What about the Mini Monitor? I know i want the floor standing monitors for the fronts so i might just have to hold off to see just how much room i'll have for the surrounds at my new place and go from there...

I have v.3 Titans and v.6 Atoms. The v.6 Atoms are head and shoulders better than the (v.3)Titans. The v.6 Titans are basically a more muscular Atom.

v.5 was a complete overhaul for both. The Titans were improved as well as the Atoms. The Titans are definitely more powerful but I just didn't need it for surrounds. The Atoms are larger than my old Titans. I set them up as fronts the first week I had them in order to break them in properly. By the end of the week I was laughing at how good they sounded.

I would recommend them to people looking to put bookshelves all around a small room as fronts and surrounds. That's how good they sound.

Just read this review of the v.5sStereophile review

I am just making the recommendation to save you a few bucks. You can get the Atoms for $300/pair and they really sound great. I was disappointed when I couldn't fit the Millenium ADPs in my set-up, and I couldn't fit another pair of Millenium 20s as rears either. That disappointment didn't last long.

How big is your room? 125 watts per channel is not really that much power but, it may be adequate.

The v.6 Atoms sound real promising and i'm all for saving a few bucks if i could. I hope my local Paradigm dealer has the v.6's in stock. I'd like to at least listen to these speakers before i order them. I guess it all comes down to the room size really. But if i could get away with the Atoms i won't mind.

Well i don't have room measurements at this point. This is all going to go into my new place. This is the equipment i was planning on. Might not be the best way to do it until i have the room size. But i would think this should be enough power for a HT living room, not a dedicated HT only room.

I think for now i might just stick to a 5.1 system and it looks like the Emotiva upa-7 can do 140w per @ 5 channels which should be enough.

I agree with the Atoms or even the Mini Monitors to go with the rest of your selection - the Titans are pretty big. If you're coming from a HTIB and this is your First HT setup - the Monitors with the UPA-7 should be perfect for your future living room unless it is a really big room, open to other rooms & vaulted ceilings...

Hope all goes well with the move and the new setup!

I'm going to check out both the Atom's and the Mini Monitors. More then likely the room will just be a medium sized living room. This will be my first full blown HT. This HTIB system was something that would at least let me enjoy the lossless audio from blu's in my currently small living room. It sure beats the tv speakers!!

Thanks! hopefully everything will go smoothly in the coming months!

That CC-390 looks sick...i bet it sounds even better then looks, the whole system of course!
