I wish I'd seen the preview; have read alot about the longer cut, when the dream imagery runs for minutes instead of fractions of seconds. CINEFANTASTIQUE did a wonderful issue on it, and CINEFEX had a good piece on it as well. They'd do well to include a warts&all doc on the Criterion, or to reprint the CFQ issue (which I've rebought about 5 times over the years.) Will double dip w/o a moment's hesitation for this, and that's with having rewatched the blu- in the last six weeks.
I don't remember a Town&Country theater across the street / highway from
Cinema 21. There was the Valley Circle. But of course it was a long, long time ago.

American Cinematographer had an article and interview about the film as well.

A shame this isn't happening. I'd love to see both versions in a Criterion set.

Would this be region locked to A? I understood that some Criterion releases are region free and others are not.

This release is not happening, but hypothetically it would be locked to A. The only Criterion release that is region free is their Ingmar Bergman box set.

A lot of their 2018 and 2019 releases are region A/B (a la Arrow). Seems like anything getting a concurrent US/UK release, though apparently the Godzilla set is an exception.

What titles might that be? I can’t think of a single Criterion title, off the top of my head, that is Region A and Region B friendly outside of the Bergman set.

FWIW, I just tried to play the following Criterion USA disks in a B set player and received the “Mismatch between disc and player region codes. See disc packaging for details.” message when trying to load each of them
‘Klute’, ‘Polyester’, ‘Stalker’, ‘Detour’, ‘Magnificent Ambersons’, ‘Night of the Living Dead’

So others’ mileage may vary

and actually, according to DVD Beaver, the Godzilla set is A/B after all. Seems like anything from Warner, Universal, and Sony that's not already under license to others. Plus stuff Janus seems to own worldwide distribution outright like Detour and Night of the Living Dead.
I own quite a few of those releases (DtRT, NotLD, ARitS, Shampoo, and The Heiress) and I tested them on my region free player set to "B" and not a single one worked. They might work with the "top menu" trick on Region B Panasonic players but they absolutely do not work through normal means.

I'm gonna need more people with confirmation on that. I find it hard to believe that the licensor (Toho) that caused region locking to be a more frequent practice is going to allow a Region A/B compatible release.

Sorry, just edited my post. I could have sworn that a few of those worked in my region B player. It's dead at the moment, so I can't confirm on my end.

It is not regardless of what DVDBeaver wrote. Several people have confirmed it's A-locked like most US Criterions
