Hopefully 88 Films can knock this out of the park with some cool extra features and original mono sound.

I just read an interview with John Woo from last year celebrating 35 years of his first American film Hard Target. He mentioned that he would love to go back and release his first cut of the film which the MPAA gave an X rating for. He also mentioned that he's aware of the 'bootleg cut' and there are fans who would love to see his original vision for the film inc Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert the producers of the film.

Fingers crossed Arrow can grab the film from Universal and get Woo involved to remaster his original vision. We can only dream right?

John Woo is so underrepresented on Blu-ray it's criminal. Welcome this release

The full uncut Hard Target is a holy grail for a lot if fans who have been clamouring for it to be released in its true form for years. Its great to hear Woo still acknowledge it's importance and have that drive to get it released. An Arrow release would be immense.

Looking forward to Heroes too tho for sure. I was going to get it on dvd recently as I wanted to watch it again but I'll wait now.

Ah, but will it be Woo's original vision or a padded cut that Woo thinks the fans want to see?

Either version will be better than what we have even though the International cut is still an incredible film

It was NC-17 NOT X rated considering the MPAA repaced the X rating with the NC-17 in September 1990.

There will never be a decent release of the HARD TARGET DC, because Universal destroyed the extra material long ago. If they aren't extremely lucky to find a surviving 35mm copy of the sneak preview version, there is no other copy of Woo's original cut in existence anymore.

So, on the tangent of Hard Target... Even if they scan the 110 min sneak preview version, if they manage to still have 35mm reels, the other issue would be the music. Off the top of my head, this music arrangement uses cues from:

-Aliens
-Lethal Weapon 3
-Dragon The Bruce Lee Story
-Hunt For Red October
-First Blood (although it works amazingly well while watching Wilford Brimley escaping from an explosion on horseback, in slow motion, while holding a longbow in the air... lol)

Not to mention a couple of Eric Clapton tracks, which would probably cost the most to license... but hey, if they can get a music-free dialogue and sound effects track and just drop in Graeme Revell's score, that could circumvent that issue at the very least.

Are they sure this is Woo's Heroes Shed No Tears and not the Shaw Brothers 1980 film?
Because seems strange this got announced along with a bunch of Shaw titles
And where did they licence it from
Might be another title/artwork mix up

The US got the rights to it too. So, yes, it is the John Woo movie. But, the 88 Films release should be much better as hoping they would have original mono.

If somebody managed to find the full version (very unlikely I know) would the BBFC have trouble with it, considering the theme of the movie?

I'm just chuffed to have an affordable Region B version, to be honest. I own Region A-compatible players, but I much prefer to have a Region B edition, particularly since I don't have sufficient players in all rooms with a TV.
