In what marks a whole new world for Disney, the studio is developing its first spinoff from one of its live-action remakes.

Disney has hired Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme to pen a script for an Aladdin offshoot centered on Prince Anders, the scene-stealing character played by Billy Magnussen in the live-action film released earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Magnussen would reprise the part in a feature, which is in early development for Disney+, the company’s newly launched streaming service. The project is not a sequel to Aladdin, which is also in the planning stages at the studio.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the billion dollar-grossing Aladdin, are back in the producers' seat via Rideback, their banner. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin will executive produce.

So the white dude gets a spinoff whereas Alladdin himself Mena Massoud can't even get an audition anywhere in town . I can't even rememeber a single millisecond of Harpin's performance, so it's hardly a scene-stealer.

I remember there was a lot of criticism for the filmmakers shoehorning a white guy into the movie in the first place. Turns out it was a backdoor pilot.

Maybe Aladdin can pop up as this white dude's sidekick? I hear Mena Massoud is in need of work.

His character was annoying and served no purpose, and a spinoff makes no sense, so I don't think many people will watch.

Mena Massoud is a soap opera-quality actor, nothing more. The kid should be appearing as a secondary character in Eastenders of Coronation Street, not playing major roles in Hollywood feature films. There is a reason that Hollywood has swept up Naomi Scott, she has solid talent.

Outside of a few Disney stars finding new shelf life as major pop musicians; I don't think many of the new faces of Disney film and television have had much career success post-1990.

There is a certain broad and even hammy quality to a lot of Disney films and television shows that's not going to translate outside of family entertainment.

Billy Magnussen has had the best career out of the final cast from As the World Turns, which was cancelled a few years ago.

The older cast members who had been on the show for decades were probably for the most part very well off and just retired.

Yet, if we follow your logic, we wouldn't have been subjected to waves and waves of other awful "actors."

How many opportunities have Jay Courtney, Liam Hemsworth or Ansel Engort gotten to lead blockbusters or franchises.

Aladdin made over a billion and he was the titular character, which is more than you can say about some actors HW has been pushing onto us.

Technically, Naomi Scott really started getting these high profile roles after/with Power Rangers.
