Thinking of upgrading my Blu-Ray player to DP-UB820

Hey Guys,

Right now I have a Philips BDP7520/F7. I'm just wondering, is it worth the money to upgrade to a Panasonic DP-UB820? Or is the picture/sound quality good enough on the Philips?

DP-UB820 is a great player apparently, you should be happy with it, although I don't know if you'll find it to be a major upgrade from your Phillips BDP7520/F7 player. I just bought an LG TV and the Panasonic UB 820 is the player I am looking at.

Even if you're not 4K, the ability to play 4K would still be a plus as the player could downscale to 1080p a 4K disc which may be sourced from a newer and higher quality remaster that is exclusive to 4K.

I have a full 4K set up. I'm just trying to maximize the viewing experience.

I know your looking at the UB 820, The Panasonic UB-9000 is at the top of the class but is it worth the asking price of $1,299 I don't know.

So it's a matter of upscaling quality. To that, I wish I could help you but I cannot. In my personal experience, replacing gear for improved upscaling has not really been worth the expense. I did have one instance where one player used a Reon chip and the other a Anchor Bay, and the Anchor Bay did a poor job deinterlacing with DVDs, but that is about it. Other than that, I've been indifferent.

Ya, I think I'll just stick with the player I have. Doubt it makes an appreciable difference.

I will say, if you do want to maximize the experience, 4K discs WOULD provide an improvement. Especially with the increased color gamut.

Oh I have UHD discs, and a 4K UHD capable player. I actually have three players. A samsung, the one X and the Philips.

I just upgraded from a Sony X700 to the Panasonic UB-820 and I can see a bit of a difference in HDR quality and overall picture quality. It seems to do a much better job on upscaling as well.

I also like the fact that it auto-detects Dolby Vision, which the Sony didn't. Also, it supports HDR10+ as well.
