are you over-generalizing or is that a direct comment about 'Cats' - a 'bad' movie or even 'bad movie making' is subjective in my opinion.

well, i'm talking about majority of people, most of everybody knows that Cats are not the great plays to begin with (Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara, James Dyer @Empire Magazine even call Cats hideous plays) and with the CG and everything and even looked by the trailer (liked 132K v disliked 344K), it's not good to begin with, don't you think?

But what does "not good to begin with" even mean when we're talking about a trailer? That didn't just spring up out of the ground, it was part of a $100M production that was already well underway and despite the hysterical reaction to it Uni weren't going to scrub what they'd done and start over. Maybe you'd be happy in writing off $100M on the whims of a bunch of whiny douchenozzles on the internet? I mean, the movie has failed miserably anyway but having spent what they've spent they had to at least give it a chance in theaters.

It wouldn't surprise me if this movie came out on 4K as part of an exclusive PetSmart steelbook. Anything to generate 9 lives out of this thing.

That's likely what happened to me. My enjoyment of the movie probably came from the fact that I absolutely love the original musical and its song. Probably the songs most of all.

Regardless, that doesn't mean I think it's a masterpiece or that it doesn't have problems and bad choices. But I liked it.

Cats is just unfilmable. The stage musical is known for not having a real story of any kind.

Having not seen any stage productions of Cats, I too was wondering if anybody expected it to be great. 2-3 songs top are good to listenable, and the rest are actually harsh on the ears. I listened to some of the broadway renditions and found them even worse than the movie. The fact that there is no real plot and it’s just song after song makes it miserable source material to begin with. But clearly some people like Cats, right? It’s one of the longest running broadway shows of all time. I’d be curious to hear what a Cats fanatic didn’t like about the movie.

The normal Blu-ray just got to a discount price of 22.99 dollars. Jesus. They're going down this one. I now am perfectly sure there's not gonna be 4K at all. Physically of course..

Universal is the kind of studio that will put out a 4K anyway despite the box office. That extra $5 for 4K gets them closer to breaking even.

Here's hoping. Specially when it was shot in 4k native. So it coasted more money to shoot it that way so they'd hopefully want to make the most out of it :P

The movie should not even be a thing to begin with. It’s a disastrous idea to start. Not to compare it to the likes of Pynchon or David Foster Wallace, but their work are things that only belong in pages of a book. Transitioning those to big screen is virtually impossible (Inherent Vice gets the pass as it’s both Thomas’ most commercial book and it has the extraordinary talent of PTA behind it).
Cats was a ridiculous stage play that still runs because of the oddity of it is. And it’s something that feels better as a stage play.

Well the source material is a collection of poems - so yes the plot is sparse

Those who've seen the Broadway show have stated it wasn't all that good either.

That's not true. Cats are very filmable. I've seen plenty of cats filmed that were great and held my attention. It's how these cats were filmed that stunk.

These aren’t cats. They’re mutant creature things.

Jesus H Christ..... There's just no excuse for putting out a movie that was evidently not finished. It looked visually rough, the cgi looked like it was 75% finished, the faces wobbled around their tiny cat heads, I swear I saw green halos around the cat fx at least 30% of the time. I'm just shocked how botched this movie looked.... and then of course everything else that didn't work. They shoulda cast stage performers, and not big name actors. Every moment was cringe, with only Idris Elba and Jennifer Hudson coming out on top. This isn't even a so bad it's enjoyable kind of movie. It should be buried in kitty litter and never seen again.

Improving the fx isn't gonna salvage the boneheaded creative decisions. Costumes and stage performers, was it that difficult to realize?

It was rushed for a Christmas release.
