Default "The Real Ghostbusters" animated series (1986-1991)

With a new Ghostbusters film on the horizon, I have gotten interested in re-watching The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. I remember seeing bits & pieces of some episodes back in the '80's/early '90's & liking the show & animation style.

So, I have a strong interest in buying the entire series. And, based on some research I've recently done - these cartoons have been released numerous times over the years on DVD. However, the only time every episode was released in a set was in the "Complete Collection" back in 2009. I just checked this on Amazon, and it's running about $1,000. I'm sure I could get it for less elsewhere, but I'm sure it will still be extremely expensive. So, I think I'll pass

It's high time the entire series were released on Blu-ray - with no episodes missing.

In the meantime, I'll have to settle for the Volume 1-5?! DVD sets.

I have the Firehouse Steelbook set. It would be awesome to have these on bluray but i doubt it will happen. The transfers used on the dvds are REALLY bad. They said it was the best they could do back in the day. I doubt the negatives are in any condition now to be able to be restored.

It would be great if this got re-released on Blu-ray. I believe the DVDs used newly-remastered versions, as they looked good, so I would think it'd be easy to put them on Blu-ray if they were done in HD, but I don't know for sure. I would hate to give up my cool "Complete Collection" firehouse box set, though. Getting that at the time was a huge deal for me and it's such an awesome box. I've rarely gone for big fancy specially-designed box sets but that and the Blade Runner briefcase were exceptions.

There is a 10 volume DVD boxset available as well. As far as I can tell it includes almost all the episodes. I think the missing ones are the Slimer shorts and the episodes that were only about 8 minutes long. I could be wrong about that though. I too have the Firehouse steelbook set which I love, but I would really love to get a blu ray release as well. I would even be happy if it got an SD blu ray release in the US like the German region B set. Here is a link to the 10 volume DVD set.

You'll be happy to know that The Real Ghostbusters in its entirety has been released on Blu-Ray. The only thing about it is you'll have to import it from Germany. This was the same way Invader Zim was released on Blu-Ray (and both distributed by the same company,Turbine Media), in the sense that they're SD on BD discs.

what's the absolute best looking and complete collection of this series? I know some have said that some sets are missing episodes.

They are uploading episodes on the official Youtube channel in SD. I haven't seen this series but I would buy it on Blu-Ray.

DVD on blu for tv shows could be great for that reason. It would save disc and packaging space, in addition to potentially lower prices. Seems like a lot of folks may be against it since it could create confusion.
