"Under the new deal, Warners will leverage the system’s comprehensive data and predictive analytics to guide decision-making at the greenlight stage. The integrated online platform can assess the value of a star in any territory and how much a film is expected to make in theaters and on other ancillary streams." |

I think this is phenomenally stupid. Taking people out of the equation just leads to a big mess. Some people think we're far too dependent on computers already, and in some cases I can see their point.

Great, so now Skynet is going to want not just more closeups, but also approval over the director and a say in how above-the-line is packaged by CAA.

Sad, but unfortunately all too true. And what makes it worse is that they're willingly stupid, living in an ideological bubble while most fans who actually care try to break it open.
I don't know why, but seeing that made me laugh. |

"Well, Mr. Welles, we personally love the script for Citizen Kane--love it--but the Compubot 9000 says it will play poorly in 32 of 44 of what it has designated our highest value 'ticket hot spots' around the US. Unfortunately, we'll have to pass."

That's probably not too far from reality at this point...which is very sad.

This could be a slippery slope. From the article, I got the sense that studios have obviously been doing their own analytics for a while, but this new program just does it quicker.
Unfortunately, this will result in even less movies coming from relative unknowns that end up blowing up. I can't see the analytics of things like the Matrix, or even Lord of the Rings showing that they should be green lit... no "big" movie stars/directors (at the time). |

Meh, it's not much different than today's analytics, statistics, and predictions that take place before a studio green-lits a film.
