I’m surprised this show isn’t more popular.

Hell, I only just saw it for the first time a couple years ago after a friend told me how funny it is.. and she was right! I wouldn’t put it up there with the likes of The Office, Seinfeld, or Frasier.. but probably on my next tier down lol.

But anyway, you always hear about how great The Office is (which.. it is lol) and there’s definitely like a good cult following for Parks and Rec (which I honestly didn’t care for that much). And then I often hear about other shows like How I Met Your Mother or Community.. but no one ever talks about 30 Rock.. and it’s such a good show! I can’t wait to revisit it on Blu-ray.

They did reference it on a recent Simpsons episode which I got a kick out of lol.

Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 (would need to have the episode order fixed like Happy Endings though) Sirens, Better Off Ted, Raising Hope. Fresh Off the Boat is ending, that could have happened as well.

Maybe not big names like Buffy and This Is Us (which would probably not happen until it was over anyway), but even some drama stuff like The Americans could have happened.

What a nice surprise! Usually I'm not too interested in the shows Mill Creek puts out, but I loved 30 Rock and have been wanting to rewatch it lately. Wonder what the price will be.

MSRP on Mill Creek is $129.98, and it was just announced today so it's not available anywhere yet to judge the actual prices... but Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Mindy Project both have an MSRP of $74.98 and are available between $40-45. 30 Rock is likely higher due to number of episodes/discs and name recognition, but it'll probably be $90ish at first and since Mill Creek tends to drop fairly quickly, it'll probably settle around $60-70.

I hope this has extras and isn't just barebones. You never know with millcreek.
The Mill Creek sell sheet says “Bonus Features include Commentaries, Deleted Scenes, Gag Reels and more!” ...so I’m guessing all the DVD extras are coming over:

Interestingly, the DVD version currently claims to have only 16 discs, so I wonder if Mill Creek mixed up the disc counts, meaning that the Blu-ray is only 16 discs? The PDF sell sheets have the same disc counts, but obviously, it makes very little sense for the Blu-ray to have more discs than the DVD:

I think they mixed them up. All DVDs together is 20 total. At least with the UK box set. American DVDs total is 19.

But maybe they both will be 20 or 16, since Community had the same amount of discs for both formats.

I loved this show!! I'm constantly quoting it in my head (seldom out loud, as I fear not many people I know will get the references.) Pending favorable reports of its technical merits, etc., I will definitely purchase this set. I had all but given up hope for a Blu-ray release.

The Office suffers from a pretty tragic and steep dropoff in quality after Season 5, IMO (when Greg Daniels and Michael Schur step down as showrunners to start up Parks & Rec), whereas with 30 Rock there's really not a bad season in the bunch. This is probably helped by greater consistency behind the scenes in terms of the oversight of the writing (Tina Fey and Robert Carlock were behind every last frame all the way to the series finale).

Even if it's 16, that should be more than enough. They'll likely split it evenly (or as evenly as they can) for each season for two discs per season like they did with Community and Happy Endings. One season had 13 and one had 15, so they might be tempted to cram all of those on one disc... but if that's the case, that's 12 discs. Splitting the smaller episode count seasons in half would still only be 14 discs.

While I disagree about The Office (I think the entire run is brilliant and enjoyable), I do remember being very impressed with how 30 Rock was consistently great from beginning to end.

I mean, it’s gonna have Mill Creek compression no matter what. The good thing is that it shouldn’t look worse than it does on streaming(it was on Netflix for many years before moving to Hulu).

Were there any extended versions of episodes on the DVDs?

I've done some digging, and it seems the only 2 "super-sized" episodes were S01E05 and S01E18. Both are uncut on the DVDs and on streaming. By that point, I think NBC had mostly done away with the practice.

Doing some digging around, there's an early press release for S01E14 that also mentions a super-sized episode. However, that's back when it was meant to be the 6th episode of the season, and it got delayed a few times according to The Futon Critic. According to IMDb, the runtime is 22 minutes, so I assume that by the time it made it to air, it was no longer an extended episode.

Also of note are the 2 live episodes (S05E04 and S06E19) for which there exist 2 versions (east and west coast).

As far as I'm aware, there aren't any other episodes with added footage on the DVDs.

Cool. Then I'm likely in for this set.

If The Office and Parks and Rec ever come to Blu through MC, then I'll definitely know to wait and see if it's the extended versions or not. But I couldn't remember if 30 Rock got the same treatment on disc. And apparently, the show did not, so everything should be kosher.

Actually I went back to my DVDs and it seems it does happen, but only twice in season 4 (S04E08 for about 2 minutes, and S04E22 for about 4 minutes).

Well, if they forget them, 2 episodes isn't bad compared to the other shows I mentioned with a dozen or more extended episodes.
