Default Audio problem with Punisher: War Zone

Hey guys, I'm having a little bit of trouble and I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I recently purchased Punisher: War Zone I noticed the audio cuts out of the movie. It only happens within the first 8 minutes of the movie.

The movie is playing fine, then all of a sudden, the audio cuts out of the surround sound. I pause the movie, turn of the surround sound, then turn it back on, and the sound is back.

Could this problem be because the movie is a 7.1 surround sound and I have 5.1 surround sound. I don't have this problem with any other movie, and I have nearly 30 Blu-Rays.

Thanks for your help guys.

Samsung LN52A550
Sony BD-350 Blu-Ray player
Sony HDX576WF Surround sound system.

The blu-ray player is hooked up to the TV via HDMI cable, then the player is hooked up to the surround sound system via optical cable. Like I said, no other problems with any other Blu-Rays.

I'm considering the possiblity that the problem is with the disc itself and not the system.

Okay, so I traded in the Blu-Ray for a brand new copy. I still have the same problem. It has to be something to do with the system hook-up

the movie played fine for me or i just didn't notice, i see you have been around for a while on this site, so this may be a bit simplistic solution, but.....

you do know your surrounds should not always have sound right? they only kick in every so often for certain scenes.

Well here's the thing, the movie's audio cuts out from the surround sound speakers just once, in the first 8 minutes.

However, the audio still comes from the TV speakers

Yeah, I do know that, but its the scene where the Punisher is taking cleaning out the mansion. He gets on the chandalier starts shooting, the all the sound stops.

Whene I turn off the surround sound system and turn in back on, the sound comes right back. It's just weird that it only happens once.

tv speakers and stereo at the same time? or you used just the tv for your test?

and you are aware your surrounds should not ALWAYS have sound right, unless your playing all channel, and well....

EDIT ok phewww lol, well that sounds like a serious problem then, have you tried another movie since this?

Yeah, I just used the Tv for the test. I always turn the sound all the way down on the Tv, then I turn on the system.

Have you tried selecting a different audio trac on the disc from the menu? You're not getting lossless audio with your setup as is. The only ways to do so are with HDMI from your blu-ray player to your surround system, or with multichannel analog audio cables from your blu-ray player to your surround sound system (not possible with your particular blu-ray player). Optical cables don't carry the bandwidth necessary for lossless audio. I would try selecting the regular DTS track instead of the Master Audio track and see what happens.

The surround sound system is a DVD home theatre system as well. I don't know if that makes a difference.

So if I hook up my blu-ray player to the surround system with an HDMI cable, will I be able to get a picture on the tv? Since nothing will be connected to the tv

From what I'm reading on the specs of your surround system, it looks like lossless audio isn't possible with it. You would have to connect your blu-ray player to the surround sound system using an HDMI cable, and then connect your surround system to your TV using another HDMI cable. However, your surround sound system doesn't have an HDMI input. Therefore the way you have it all connected is correct. In this case I would still recommend trying the regular DTS audio trac on the disc and see if it works. With this method you'll only be getting 5.1, so don't look for anything to be coming from the surround back speakers. Also, in your surround sound system, set it so that it's not trying to matrix any sound to those speakers. And I'm not suggesting you leave it this way all the time, but just for testing purposes.
