Paramount Transformers: Beast Wars

Dual ‘Transformers’ Movies In The Works At Paramount

Quote:
Transformers, the IP that never dies, based on the 1980s toy franchise with the slogan “more than meets the eye” is being developed again at Paramount with two projects, one by Murder Mystery scribe James Vanderbilt and the other by John Wick Chapter 3 EP and Army of the Dead scribe Joby Harold.

The Vanderbilt project, from what I heard, is based on Transformers spinoff Beast Wars which are robots that transform into robotic animals like Cheetor (Cheetah), Optimus Primal (Gorilla), Rhinox (Rhinoceros) and more. Vanderbilt has been on the project since April. There’s news today that one project is based in the Bumblebee universe.

The franchise, including spinoff Bumblebee, has amassed over $4.8 billion worldwide over six titles. However, Bumblebee which was expected to be a rejuvenation of the blockbuster series was the lowest grossing installment with $468M worldwide during the 2018 year-end holiday season, going up against Aquaman.

It’s still early. No directors attached, though both will feature new casts.

I vaguely remember Beast Wars. It was shit. I have extremely low expectations from this, sounds like they’re completely disregarding all the advancements the franchise made in bumblebee and are gonna knock together some new instantly disposable “cheapo” blockbuster. From the writer of Independence Day: Resurgence!

Beasties was my childhood. I think I had a Cheetor transforming action figure too.

Actually, scratch my last comment. It definitely wasn't Beast Wars I remember, because I was far too bloody old for Transformers when that came out!

Probably my favorite show growing up, but I'm not too excited for the movie tbh.

It would have to have no human characters, and honestly the good stories would take longer than the movie would be

So what is the plan here? I was hoping Bumblebee was a reboot and that's what they'd build off going forward, but I also heard Beast Wars will be set in the Michael Bay timeline. It's all so confusing.

Cool, I guess. I was too old for Beast Wars as I am a Gen X'er that grew up on the Gen 1 Transformers. Hopefully it turns out to be decent for those that are excited aboot it! Next thing we know we'll be getting a GoBots film.

Beast Wars is was what got me into transformers. It’s my favorite generation. I still have all my toys from the original line. Still want the Masterpiece ones.

Please be live action. The cartoon was cgi animated and part of the point of these movies is to turn them “real”.

Hope it gets sequels for transmetals and fuzors. Optimal Optimus!

So I take it nobody here is disappointed in any way that Paramount have essentially reset the franchise again and have learned nothing, absolutely nothing, from Bumblebee? I mean, forget about giving Travis Knight & Christina Hodson some cash and saying "you know those scenes on Cybertron, can you make something like that?" or "hey let's bring back Charlie Watson and have another adventure with more of the iconic Autobots and Decepticons on board this time"... no, let's bring in James Vanderbilt and pray to god everybody overlooks the fact that he's had an extremely wibbly wobbly career post Zodiac and now we'll jump to a completely different generation of Transformers and just start from scratch despite the overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics to our last Transformers film... yeah. That's the way to take Transformers to the next level!

You're not understanding me, it doesn't matter how good Beast Wars was, if they bring in another Michael Bay to come in, not respect what they are adapting and just create another shitty "blockbuster" actioner with no brains, no heart, then we're back to square one. Whatever people think of Bumblebee, they've at least got to admit that Travis Knight brought with him a healthy amount of respect for the source and understanding of what Transformers should be. Paramount clearly didn't give a shit about any of that though.

All of the new movies (aside from Bumblebee) have been crap. Hard pass.

As long as Michael Bay isn't attached, it should be great.
