That is a good question. I am betting they they will release a player by year's end.

The "perseverance" line is troubling... that was EXACTLY Toshiba's problem: rather than be smart, they simply committed themselves relentlessly to a bad idea.

I do hope they go blu... for their own sake!

Toshiba is hopelessly lost as a business. It is apparent the corporate leadership had no clear strategy for if HD DVD failed completely, which it did. They get everything they deserve for the poor choices made.

At least the new CEO is an engineer and not a political science/law major like Nishida was. That's some progress.

Until the DVD business is no longer viable, I don't see them going BD, after all the quicker they support BD, the faster they cannibalize DVD.

Does anyone know how long it took Sony to start producing VHS players after Beta died (consumer-product wise only, I know)

I suspect it won't be much longer than before Toshiba jumps into the Blu-ray fray! And good for them, because I think they make outstanding products.

in the past i havent teribly pleased with their a/v equipment but i've had 2 A2's and an A30 that have been outstanding. but that being said i wont support their "SUC" technology. i think before the end of the year toshiba will announce a player. They're the last major CE company to not have one even announced.

Their HD DVD players are craptastic quality. Back in the CRT Rear Projection days they actually made very good CRT sets.

Then again somebody like Samsung who makes good LCD's makes crappy DVD and blu-ray players.

Hey I bought their BD2500 BD player and it works like a charm for my father. I don't think their BD players are crap...but their TV's are SWEET!

Well their first batch of blu-ray players were horrendous (and expensive!!).. I'm glad then newer models are better.

Their upscaling players we used to sale before HD players came were problematic as well.

I hope Toshiba goes Blu because I have had great success with their TVs!

IMO, Toshiba will produce Blu-ray players only when the world economy straightens out and they see a clear profit.

Me neither, especially since the laptop I bought from them a few years ago lasted me about 18 months before it broke AND it had to be sent in like 3-4 times during those 18 months for repairs.
