Default Narrow Margin (1990) (Koch Media)

Worldwide first release of the film. With new 4K scanning. Unfortunately in the Mediabook.

Big fan of this highly underrated little thriller. Granted, I haven't seen it in probably 25 years, but looking forward to this disc!

Rented this and Shoot to Kill on VHS the same night as a kid; liked both a lot. Day 1.

Koch has correct pitch for English, correct loudness levels and better video encode than KINO.

Affirmative on all of these. If you like the movie, the Koch release (as it often is) is superior.

Is the US BD another disc like Bitter Moon, where KL took a PAL HD master they were provided by StudioCanal, slowed it down to the correct speed, but then raised the pitch up to match the PAL-sped-up original? Oy vey!

Happy to see Koch reissued this in a keepcase, saves on shelf space and will look good next to my German copy of Hyams' Capricorn One.

Any chance of a better release in the UK (from Indicator, perhaps)?

Who knows, it certainly doesn't seem to be a "hot" catalog title though. Indicator doesn't seem too intent on releasing a lot of films from the 80s at this point. If it's not them it's Studio Canal itself which always has hit or miss quality.

Either way, right now (IMO) the Koch/Plaion is the best release there is. Plaion's encoding is typically excellent, and the sound doesn't have the issues that Kino's does. Kino's UHD is ok but between the okay compression and the audio issues (which are the same as their Blu-Ray), whatever gains you get in 4K are offset by the shortcomings, and there's no HDR anyway.

And Plaion's has English subtitles too, correct?
