If you are from the respective country, you kind of build up a sentimental attachment for the. I like the BBFC logos.

A LOT of German discs have reversible slicks, no logo, no barcode. We can only hope for these.

In short: Because it's the law in those countries and they're required to do so.

The mediabook has a fine print above the rating logo which specifically mentions that the sticker is removable. I assume that the same is the case for the other two designs.

Anyway, I couldn't give a **** about the ratings logos if it has English subtitles.

Aye. But if I was German or Australian I'd be sick of the sight of those countries' respective ratings logos if they were on everything (though the reversible/removable ones are duly noted, I have several myself).

Coming back to inform that Koch Media has weak customer service. I sent an email to CS which is found on their website and never got a reply back on my inquiry about English subs on the 4K releases. Even wrote the email in German to make it easier for them, but to no avail.

Same here. Sent an email 2 weeks ago asking them if they could look into including english subs on foreign movies in the future, but no response.

Their Mediabooks are so awesome that I preordered the 4K of Parasite. Being from the Netherlands, my German is okay at best but I just have to have that packaging

Does anybody know what the (now unfortunately cancelled) Ultimate edition should have had in it? Some license issues they said. Did they want to get Memories of Murder, which still ha no release in Germany and there's a wonderful 4K-Scan of that flick.

There's an amazon exclusive 4K steel coming in April (i.e. one month later) as well now: https://www.amazon.de/Parasite-Steel...1445328&sr=8-1

Which I ordered instead of the Mediabook now, because I prefer a steel.

Since I missed it yesterday... The steel is coming without the bonus BD. Will most likely pick the steel over the Mediabook anyway, but what a weird decision to say the least.

If, and it's a major if, Criterion finally taps it's toes in the 4K UHD water - maybe it was all about the timing and release scheduling that a UHD release with English subtitles had to happen past the other UHD releases - but that's just speculation.

Are there any past examples that give credence to such a theory?

Wait, is that the one that includes the black and white version?

Edit :
Looks like Amazon Germany has two versions. One that includes a 4k copy and regular blu ray. Then another that includes two blu Rays. Since koch is distributing them, I'm guessing that's the bonuses disc.

oh I was more thinking along the lines of when and if Criterion is to begin releasing UHD to it's time/year difference when they transitioned from DVD to bluray.

Alas, if that were the case, Criterion would've been putting out their first Ultra HD Blu-ray titles around September 2018.

(They put out their first high-def titles around 2.5 years after Blu-ray launched.)

Yeah, Criterion waited ~18 months to put out their first DVD (and about another 12 more months before they took advantage of anamorphic masters), and ~24 months for their first Blu. It's been ~36 months and still no signs of UHDs, other than a vague rumor about possible Wong Kar-Wai UHDs at some point. They may very well put out UHDs eventually. I'm just not going to wait for them to get around to it, if they ever do.

as well as the Soderberg mention that "Sex, Lies and Videotape' had a HDR pass/grading , me thinks it all boils down to the fact UHD's are region free and I think Criterion has to region lock their titles to region A or they break other territorial exclusivities - this sounds like the obvious reason, but I have no idea why Jon Mulvaney just doesn't clear the air and explain this as a reason.

It seems that Koch and Capelight really botched this release...
No HDR, no Atmos and all is pressed on an inferior BD-66.
While the French-UHD has all that on a BD-100 but no understandable subs for me...
I really hoped they would be on par after they did a half decent job with the Suspiria package.

There is no region locking for UHD anywhere, so I don’t think this has anything to do with there being no UHD yet. For them I think it’s all about the bottom line and the logistics of releasing a third format type alongside dvd/bluray
