Default Memory (2022)

Quote:
As the European Film Market gets underway in Berlin, here’s a last-minute project that should stir some buyer interest. Liam Neeson will lead the cast of 'Memory', an action thriller from 'Casino Royale' director Martin Campbell.

Pic is based on the 2003 Belgian film 'The Memory Of A Killer', Dario Scardapane ('The Bridge') has written the screenplay for the English-language version.

Neeson will play an expert assassin with a reputation for discreet precision who, when he refuses to complete a job for a dangerous criminal organization, becomes a target and must go on the hunt for those who want him dead

Cathy Schulman ('Crash') is producing through her Welle Entertainment banner, with Rupert Maconick and Arthur Sarkissian. Black Bear Pictures’ Teddy Schwarzman ('The Imitation Game'), Michael Heimler ('I Carry You With Me') and Ben Stillman ('Gold') will executive produce and Black Bear will fully finance the film, which is scheduled to commence photography in August. I see his retirement from action thrillers is going swimmingly

Not that I mind

What a stale-sounding, refried, regurgitated piece of $hit.

For some reason, Deadline's report doesn't mention the not unimportant fact that the main character suffers from the early stages of Alzheimer's. Unless the remake screenwriters have scrapped that element from the novel.

Take standard direct-to-video action movie plot, throw in Liam Neeson and some gimmick (Alzeheimer's, plane, train, cold, etc.), mix well for about six months and serve to mutiplexes for matinees and discount nights.

Campbell, and Neeson? I'm in. I love the Edge of Darkness series with Joe Don Baker, Goldeneye AND Casino Royale saved Bond, and The Foreigner is absolutely wonderful (I seriously love The Foreigner).
On the face of it the plot sounds trite, but it is most assured that at worst I will be entertained.

No mention of The Mask Of Zorro?! Hell, I even like the unfairly maligned sequel to that.

I saw it in the theater as a kid, and I enjoyed it. I never felt the need to revisit it, and I don't think it would hold up well for me. Should I check it out again?

The original movie got great reviews

Probably going to be similar to In Order of Disappearance, which also got solid reviews, yet the remake Cold Pursuit was a bit of a step down.

It's the best Indiana Jones movie we've gotten since 1984. And Catherine Zeta-Jones...

It's a seriously fantastic film. If you haven't seen it since you were a kid, you'll be surprised how well it holds up. Hell, I was 24 when it dropped, and I loved it then.

I'm excited for this tbh.

Liam Neeson + action = top notch mindless entertainment

The Mummy ('99) would like a word, sir. As would National Treasure.
