Default Project x (1987) - 2/28/2020

The U.S. release isn’t poor, by any means, but there’s ample room for improvement. Even though it’s inexpensive, I’m a little reluctant to import this unless someone can help clarify:

1. Is the narrative text that opens the film in English or German?
2. Is the picture quality an improvement over the old U.S. Anchor Bay Blu?

I've got it on pre-order so can answer question 1 when it arrives (not been charged for it yet so still waiting to despatch)

Opening narrative text in english.

Audio is DTS-MA 2.0. Can't compare video quality but this has grain and some dirt on the print so no post processing stuff like DNR etc.

Cover is reversible as well. Features original theatrical artwork.

Beautiful news! How about subtitle offerings?

Okay. Not a deal breaker. I’m 95% sure there’s no foreign language in the film in need of translation (unlike my careless, bust purchase of GOTCHA! last month). Thanks for the update. Looks like a safe order.

Not seen it since my VHS days so couldn't comment on that. For £11 shipped though, it's a decent release

For anyone who had the same question as me, I have purchased the German release and A/B'd it with the U.S. one. The print used is identical. The German release seems to have marginally less grain management, but it's a pretty nominal difference. Both have unique bonus features (in the case of the German set, a teaser trailer). There are no English subtitles provided on the German release. All said, if you're an owner of the U.S. edition, I see no compelling reason to invest in the German edition (but I am happy to at least own the teaser now).

Can you confirm the German disc is Region B locked?

Yup, it’s locked down tight, I’m afraid.
