Which Oppo? Is your current power supply defective?

I always thought OPPO had some of the best on board components on the market. I’m interested in what you’ve found that can make OPPOs already stellar performance even better?

Most things like this don’t improve anything, your being scammed into believing it improves video and audio compared to what Oppo incorporates. It’s not going to change the THD or S/N of the audio outputs, or reduce video artifacts when sending bitstream to a AVR.

Additionally you remove any service path thru Oppo by changing power supplies just as FYI.

If you really want to improve the performance of any Oppo disc player then you should buy Audioquest Diamond HDMI cables.

A 6.6' length cable is a bargain at only $1799.98. Put your money where it will really make a performance difference.

Audiophile Rocks - The Greatest Snake Oil of All

This guy has varnish + quartz 'piezoelectric' rocks placed on top of his amp to improve sound quality. There's a picture of a berobed man, presumably the creator, holding two of his monstrosities like a herald of divinity. He sells the newest model of his 'audiophile rocks' (developed through years of research), the 'Ice Tower', for $10000 USD.

I recently replaced the stock power supply of my 203 with the LPM SE from OPPOMOD. I also bought their Aluminium BD-ROM Stabilizer.

I won't pretend anything about the benefits of a toroidal linear power supply on the quality of the A/V signal coming out of a modified 203, but I'll remark that the 205 has a toroidal power supply and it was certainly one of the features that were promoted when the 205 was still sold by Oppo:
Quote:
The UDP-205 features improved sound quality from its analog audio outputs courtesy of its implementation of dual 32-bit ESS Technology ES9038 PRO reference DACs, a toroidal power supply, and two sets of dedicated stereo analog outputs (balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA) for 2-channel enthusiasts. Customers who do a great deal of critical music listening using a very high end, analog connected system will benefit most from these additions.
So maybe you'll see and hear a difference, maybe not. But, to me, an upgraded (or not upgraded) 203 is a better A/V player than most of the devices available new today.

Wow..just Wow! It would seem to me that $10k would be better invested in better equipment not rocks to put on top of it. Or am I under thinking it?
Although, I remember once I was struck in the head with a rock and for about an hour all sounds around me were magnified. Deeper, tighter, throbbing bass was present to me at this time and the ringing in my ears amplified the tonal balance of sound to such a piercing degree I couldn’t stand it. It was one of the more profound audio experiences of my life.

Think of all the money that you could have made had you marketed your AudioConcussion rocks? You may still be able to cash in on the market for audio enhancing gravel if you can bring your product to market for under $10,000 retail.

Having my Oppo warranty honored, should I ever need it, is a better choice in my opinion.

Yeah I think I’m gonna have to patent this before someone beats me to it.

My warranty is over.

That being said, if I ever need to send my 203 back to Oppo, I can put back in the original power supply and the original parts of the BD-ROM player.

If you're happy with your decision then that is all that matters.

Personally, I see no compelling reason to pay money to change the power supply on my 203; the original one it came with works just fine. If I am not gaining any perceptible performance improvements for spending that additional money and for doing the extra work to install another power supply, then why bother? I would rather use that money to buy more discs.

In the states Oppo continues to service players for reasonable fixed price for out of warranty repair. But if a defective power supply smokes the main CCA and you try hiding it by swapping the old power supply back in it will be kinda obvious to the service provider.

You've got to be kidding! Anybody who'll willing to pay $1,800.00 for a HDMI cable is a sucker. A brand new state of the art A/V receiver doesn't cost that much.
