Of course. I just bought the DVD 3 weeks ago. You can thank me, everyone. I made the sacrifice.

Sanity shipping is faster to the US and Sanity automatically deducts GST at time of order. For a single title JB shipping is a bit cheaper but for 3 or sometimes 4 titles, Sanity is not only faster, but cheaper. JB will refund the GST, but you have to contact them sometime after the item ships. Sometimes it's simple, sometimes it takes multiple requests via email |

I bought the last Aussie releases I really wanted, Last of the Mohicans & Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves from JB HiFi, because I wanted them as soon as they came out.
And within a few weeks there were sellers listing them new on Amazon for reasonable prices, just like most other Aussie releases. It won't be hard to get this disc in the US. |

Though some pages on Sanity's website still claim all international shipping has been shut down by the Australian government (NOT according to Australia Post's website although its cheapest service has been suspended since COVID-19 began), Sanity did ship my order yesterday. Though Sanity didn't give me a tracking number, I have it via *both* an email from Australia Post *and* my USPS Informed Delivery account. We'll see how long it takes to reach the U.S. And it's not that expensive even with international shipping -- AU$23.58, US$15.22 on my zero-conversion-fee debit card.

F*ck. Just bought a copy today. All in all though, at $12.95 (US $8.40), it is not a huge surprise that the master/transfer is less than stellar.
The “lines” issue would be bothersome and if it is stretched like The Truman Show, that is also a shame. Unless Criterion does a scan of the OCN, The Shock release is probably as good as it gets. I’ve never seen Ordinary People, so I am glad I have it in my collection. I can now say (once viewed), that I have seen all the Best Picture films from the Best Picture for 1969 (Midnight Cowboy) to the present. Ordinary People is the missing link in the Best Picture catalogue on Blu-Ray. We now have Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) to Parasite (2019), on BD. (Around the World in 80 Days (1956), not available). |

Watched the first 15 minutes. The PQ is below average. Telecine wobble (gate weave) is quite bad, doesn’t settle for quite a while, but then admittedly, is barely evident.
There was a click in the audio at around the 5 minute mark (When Sutherland and Fonda walk up the stairs). Looks like the transfer was most likely struck from an Interpositive (print damage shows as black marks). The print damage isn’t all that bad, one or two small scratches, the amount of spicks and specks varies. Sometimes it is almost non-existent, then it looks poor again Will be hard to enjoy the film since the PQ is so bad. The picture looks stretched at times. Is most likely stretched all throughout, it is just more noticeable at times. The master must be quite old and the telecine they used for the transfer must have needed a good service. While I’ve seen worse (eg. The Dish, recalled release), Shock’s release of Ordinary People is very disappointing. Note: Not sure if my eyes were deceiving me, but at times it looks like the transfer has NTSC judder... Then it goes back to looking like a proper 24fps transfer. Very odd. |

Just received my copy here in the States from Sanity, after 10 days from Sydney to San Francisco, a few more days there (probably in customs), and a last-minute detour to Jacksonville, FL before being redirected to me in Jacksonville, AR (Little Rock suburb).
It is indeed Region B-locked, as confirmed by my hardware-modded LG player (and for Region A, my stock Sony player). I happen to have it on HD streaming via Vudu; it appears to be the exact same transfer, including specks in the opening credits and the pop just after the 5-minute mark. (BTW that's Mary Tyler Moore, NOT Jane Fonda.) Only recommended wholeheartedly if you're a Best Picture completist (as I am), have access to a Region B player, and don't want to stream it. Otherwise wait for Paramount to release a better transfer, or watch it on your favorite streaming service. |

I'm a huge fan of this film and I'm one of the few who thinks it deserved its Best Picture Oscar over Raging Bull. But I can still wait for a decent blu. |
