Default Painting walls for home theatre bedroom

Im going to be redocorating my bedroom, where i have all my gear such as ps3 and sky hd and im going to try and paint the wall behind the tv grey, as i heard this improves the perceived quality of the picture when backlighting is used.

I was thinking about stripping off the current textured wallpaper, filling any holes from old shelving that has been taken down and putting up a lining paper and painting that, would this be a good way of getting a nice smooth finish to the walls?

Also these are the colours im going to use, what do you think? The first one is the darker colour for the wall behind the tv and other colour is for the rest of the room.

Thanks

The painting would help improve perceived contrast. I would opt for the darker color.

Good Luck!

for removing the textured wallpaper....... I'd recommend it (out of personal preference) and if it comes off cleanly, touch-ups should be a breeze.

what finish? (Flat, Matte, Egg-shell, semi-gloss, etc) are you considering...... You'll probably want to go "Satin" since it's your bedroom.....

We painted ours.... went with the darker color. I have led backlighting behind my set... so if you ever plan on doing that, stick with a finish that does not reflect light for the best overall effect! We are very happy with our finished (for now) design. Take a flash light with you to the home depot / lowes paint section and shine it on the pallet of finished samples, so you can see what I mean about reflecting less light. Have fun.

Flat finish might be good. I don't think it's very reflective.

It leaves chalking spots if you touch it though...... That's why Flat isn't ideal for most "living" areas..... I have Matte finish, and even that is bad for that, but fortunately it's not a common area of the house.

And if you have kids, I'd never suggest Flat or Matte..... you'll need to repaint it every year!

Not with the newer high quality flats. I recently painted a few rooms with Behr flat, and it is VERY impressive. No chalking, TOTALLY washable without pulling the paint off or leaving a sheen. There is something in it that acts as a sealer, without resulting in a shine. I was quite surprised, to the positive. Aint cheap, but coverage was outstanding. Best paint I have worked with.

I haven't heard of that, might have to try it. Does Home Depot still sell Behr?

I was going to go with Mouse-Ear-Black from Behr (a-la Mickey-Mouse) but I got a pretty good discount from Sherwin Williams...... even their better quality ($50 a gallon) Matte finish is somewhat chalky to the touch...... I wish I would have known.... I certainly could have sprung for some Behr from the Depot had I known

I'd go with a darker color such as a maroon, burgundy, deep blue or dark green rather than the lighter grayish colors you linked to - and I agree with the flat finish recommendations.

I painted our living room for our projection screen...I researched it a bit.

Neutral colors are usually suggested (gray, brown, etc) I went with a brown color and it looks great.

Flat paint is also better to prevent the reflections (course I ruined that by putting up movie posters that reflect everything)...
