I seem to recall people saying similar things when these films transitioned from DVD to Blu-ray, yet here we are.

The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast are noticeably improved with the HDR and feel both richer and more refined. Aladdin and The Lion King are more subtle, but they both have moments that really pop (with Aladdin, "Friend Like Me" really soars, and with The Lion King, the final battle with all of its red and bright flames is super vivid). In the case of something like Mulan, I can see HDR being really beneficial to the ancestors and their translucency as well as the fireworks during the climax.

Do the Blu-rays look outstanding? Of course they do since they're straight from the digital source. But does that mean they should never ever be released to UHD? That seems rather selfish towards people who want to own these in the highest format possible.

I remember when Sleeping Beauty first came out on DVD my Dad said there was no reason to upgrade from the old 80's tape we had. It turned into a huge argument. Finally I bought the DVD and he watched like 5 minutes of it, mumbled that it was "a good transfer" and stormed off because he didnt want to admit he was wrong. So, it's been going on for quite a while

Certainly Blu->4K is not a huge jump on a lot of these films but I think it's going to definitely get a solid boost on the 4K for the reasons you mentioned.

And as for people who say Mulan didnt do well.. 304M WW on 90M budget. Nothing wrong with that. Or to put it more in perspective, US box office adjusted for Inflation, it did $230M and Little Mermaid $238M (https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a8...office-ranked/)

If you want to talk Disney films that did poorly theres lots that did worse then Mulan. Most recently Princess and the Frog did less.

I promised myself I'd only upgrade Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King -- the cream of the crop to me. So I'll likely pass on Mulan. But I wouldn't be able to keep my promise if Hunchback was released.

Well, unlike these four, Mulan is not a film Disney cares enough to mess with, Hunchback as well.

Strange that the animated Jungle Book didn’t get a release alongside the live action version.

I think it is a guarantee. BUT. I bet they debut the 4K versions on Disney Plus first before bringing them to Physical Media.

Sword on the Stone has a 4K transfer on D+. So they have done it for some movies already. I'd certainly buy the disc.

Saw this on the twitters and it’s probably not official but wow I’d instantly buy a steelbook with this art.

[edit] Oh there’s already a thread on the steelbook forums of course.

If you check the steelbook thread, the steelbook cover is determined to be fanmade. It even says temp art on DenOfGeeks twitter feed. The other cover for the regular release is from the same source.

This is probably fake because I don't think Mulan is going to be a Signature Collection release but I'd be happy with this cover art.

Now the question is will they include a blu-ray disc of Mulan II or release Mulan II separately on blu-ray. As of right now I think you can only get it in the double pack.

The Blu-ray disc of Mulan contains both Mulan and Mulan II.

They won't use it. They'll reissue the standard edition.
