Default How would you rate the newer Bond films from this millenium?

In order by best plot/story line and image quality on BD?

Please view as stand-alone stories

I'm interested in getting into them again but do not want to start with very old material. I have not watched the past 5 or 6 because they just didn't intrigue me. Quantum of Solace commericials look interesting when it comes to FX but would like to see others prior to it.

For me, I think the last two stand as stand alone stories that really do not need you to invest the time now to watch the entire series. I liked Casino Royal much more the QoS, but mostly due to the film style of QoS.

That is not to say you shouldn't go back and watch some of the older films, but that you really do not need to in order to enjoy and understand the last 2 films.

The last 2 movies are a reboot of the series so you don't need to know what happened in the older movies .

I think they're probably some of the worst bond films to date (the daniel craig ones). Trying to make James Bond into some dark gritty emo spy is a total joke. Where are the gadgets? Where's Q? Give me a freaking break.

You do realise CS and QoS are from the beginning of Bond, right? He has to build into the character that you are used to.

QOS (latest one).. was a complete disaster.... What were they thinking when they decided to make the angle of the shot change every 2-3 seconds for the entire movie? It is a complete pain to even watch it. I think they were on crack when they made the movie.

I loved Casino Royale however... was the first Bond movie I enjoyed in a long time.

Although Sean Connery will always be the best Bond (I think Daniel Craig is closest to his style), I actually liked Roger Moore as well. And LIVE AND LET DIE is still my favourite Bond film! Just wanted to say that.

I have every Bond movie (including Never Say Never Again) with the exception of "QoS" on DVD, and I love the older ones, and really don't care for the Pierce Bronson/Daniel Craig ones..... They became too politically correct.... I guess Bond can't back-hand a woman anymore......

ALSO..... Bond plays games of skill and sophistication...... NOT TEXAS HOLD-em'

What a terrible decision that was.

Out of the recent Bonds (only Brosnan / Craig), My order goes:

1. Goldeneye (One of the best action films ever )
2. Casino Royale (Didn't like it the first time I saw it but it has grown on me after a few more watches)
3. Quantum of Solace (Again like C.R, my first watch I only thought is was alright but it was better the second time. To me, it still ain't a full Bond movie, way too much of coping of Bourne but still a great action flick)
4. World is Not Enough (Fun and over the top, some stupid stuff in it and Richrads was terrible but still quite enjoyable)
5. Die Another Day (Pretty much the same as World, loads of dumb ideas but still entertaining)
6. Tomorrow Never Dies (I really don't care for this one, kinda entertaining but I didn't like it overall)

Casino Royale is the best bond movie in decades...and although Quantum of Solace was weak its still *much better* than all the Brosnan Bond movies put together...

1. Casino Royale (definately my favorite)
2. Goldeneye (seen many times and always loved it)
3. Quantum of Solace (i loved how it was not just bond, how olga was a central character that was really given screentime, a fresh feel; but did not like all the cuts or music playing over my action scenes)
4. Tomorrow Never Dies (the action is fast paced exciting, and it was cool to see the asian chick do her thing as well)
5 & 6 (tie) I didnt like The World is Not Enough for the real boring setup and the fact that nothing really happened, Die Another Day had the action but the story had me rolling my eyes, it was campybond

1.Goldeneye (The movie that started my Bond obsession. 006 one of the best villains ever.) Thanks to the N64 game.

2.Casino Royale (Daniel Craig is great and the movie was a good change)

3.Tommorow Never Dies (Villian wasn't that great, but Brosnan makes it all worthwhile)

4.The World is not Enough (Liked Robert Carlyle, Sophie Marceau and Brosnan but the story was lackluster.)

5. Quantum of Solace (Very disappointing follow up to Casino Royale. Craig was good but the story and direction was horrid. Bond has turned into Bourne .... officially.)

6.Die another Day (Bad! So sad to see Brosnan go out with this trash. Hally Berry was horrid as well ).

You totally missed the point of the reboot, and you're standing in a small minority. The reboot has made Bond relevant again, and it has successfully moved Bond away from being campy and closer toward the original vision set in Fleming's novels. Craig truly has given the best portrayal of Bond on film.

Hellzo no

I'd take all the Brosnan ones over QoS.
Except maybe Die Another Day.

The worst Bond film ever!

Even worse than The Living Daylights!

I will be very interested to see how this opinion holds up once the movie is out on physical media. I have to agree that in theatres, it was very difficult to follow the quick cuts and pans. However, I remember feeling the exact same way leaving Casino Royale, and the Dark Knight, to name a few. However, having seen these on blu-ray on a normal sized screen, the effect was much easier to follow, even with the Imax/35mm quick switches in the Dark Knight.

Just a thought, as I've been pondering this point since leaving the movies after seeing QoS the first time. Would love to get others' insight if possible, without completely hijacking the thread.

But, on the thread's point, if by "this millenium", you mean post-2000, then, you're looking at Die Another Day, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace (The World is Not Enough is a 1999 release). So, really, you're looking at Pierce Brosnan's last work, which is looked down upon, and the new franchise. You're better off starting at Casino Royale, then Quantum of Solace, as one "stand alone". Then, go back and pick and choose movies based on catchy titles, and try to draw elements of each that you have seen "reborn" in Casino/Quantum. It's easier to do it this way than to watch the first 20 movies then look at how they relate to the newer franchise!

So, in short, if you just want to "see Bond", there is no need to go back to pre-Casino Royale titles right away. Best get a foundation of "Becoming Bond", and then look at how the different actors portrayed what Daniel Craig is slowly (but painfully, to some) attempting to achieve.

Perhaps but Casino Roayle and Dark Knight are not the same as QOS, they don't do it every 2 seconds for the ENTIRE movie like QOS does. It's like they can't sit still with one angle for more than 3 seconds EVER for the entire movie. Even when they are just sitting at a bar talking they have to keep switching angles.. it is nuts. What is next, completely spinning the camera around the actors / action the entire movie non stop?

Casino Royale was nothing like that and was a great movie.
