I wouldn't hope for too many announcements from anyone about anything. Maybe a couple of middleware updates (UE3, IdTech5 etc...) and an announcement from Iwata, but as for SCE, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

GDC is for developers, E3 is for gamers. The gaming press should stop trying to turn this into minE3, I think GDC should banish the press from the show completely...

I hope with the success of LBP, there will be more games that feature User-Generated Content. I feel that in this department the PC has the upper-hand with consoles.

For example:

How much better would be Killzone 2 if you would generate your own maps and share them with friends for Online-Play? Would there be some cheating or something? Potentially. However, isn't that the same with LBP, but no one really complains? Also they could make the user-generated maps not count for your online rankings.

Try Unreal Tournament 3, its the starter for User-Generated Content, but then Developers wouldn't get money for releasing new maps..

Introducing the Zeebo™ Console.
Zeebo has reinvented the game console for a new wave of global consumers. The Zeebo Console smashes the barriers that have held interactive entertainment back in emerging markets around the world.

Breakthrough affordability: Zeebo hardware is based on Qualcomm’s BREW platform and MSM chipset, leveraging high-volume cellphone economics to create the world’s most affordable console. In addition, Zeebo users can buy the top game titles, localized in their language, for a fraction of the traditional retail price. And the Zeebo Console consumes only 1 watt of power--20 to 100 times less than other consoles--saving substantial energy costs (and enabling users to buy 2-3 more titles per year). The result: the first interactive entertainment and education platform matched the current realities of emerging markets and tightening economies.

Radical simplicity: Plug it into a TV and play, right out of the box. The Zeebo Console’s elegant simplicity and unique, self-explanatory user interface make electronic gaming quicker and easier than ever before.

Wireless convenience: The Zeebo Console connects automatically to the ZeeboNet™ Wireless Network, enabling users to buy and download new games in minutes. Users can shop securely and buy localized versions of top content without leaving their couches. There’s no more need to buy risky, no-warranty grey-market titles. And content providers can deliver their products without the threat of piracy.

Great experience: Zeebo brings 3D graphics and great gameplay to hundreds of millions of consumers hungry for affordable interactive entertainment and education. While harnessing the many benefits of BREW wireless gaming, it combines these with a true home console experience, including 640 x 480 screen resolution, a full-featured game controller, multiplayer capability and expansion ports for additional options.

I may have to give Unreal Tournament 3 a shot then.

Also I think that Developers will still make money if they allow user-generated content. Just look at LittleBigPlanet and their Metal Gear Solid level pack. I bet a large majority of people purchased those and they made money.

Different game, Added tools for creating. Most editors come out once, and don't make you pay for upgrades. For Example, All FPS on PC.

And Unreal Tournament 3 mods can only be made if you purchase the PC version of the game, to get the editor, then they are cooked for PS3.

Thats true, but it doesn't mean they couldn't do it like that in the future.

Default Ueda Keynote

Quote:
Ueda explained why his own games lack dialogue at all. "The most important thing in fiction expression is reality," he said. "Conversations between characters require characters to say the same things over and over so things can proceed... It makes it difficult to think that these characters are real. So I started eliminating that... But as a future step, if it's possible for a character to think or converse on its own, it might be interesting."
Quote:
The second and final question, lauded Shadow of the Colossus as the posterchild of "games as art", but Ueda disagreed. "My team and I are making a game which is close to art -- that's what people say. Personally I don't think that way."

"We're making a game to entertain people. Sometimes my personality and my team's might be reflected on the game, and it might look like art, but it is a game to entertain people. That kind of feedback is welcome but it's not what I'm trying to achieve."

Quote:
Ueda's response? "Well, let's see. It might be similar to the past, probably... I'm struggling. The essence of the game is close to Ico... I can't talk about this anymore.
Don't ask any more questions, please!
