Glass' score is so underrated.

Yep, as stated, Midsommar and Joker are tied for best score of 2019, IMO.

The ones that stood out from the movies I watched in 2019:

Le Man 66 (or Ford VS Ferrari) by Beltrami/Sanders
Parasite by Jaeil Jung
Rise of Skywalker by John Williams

Funny thing about Parasite, I wanted to buy the soundtrack after I saw it but it was out of print already from Japanese Amazon, this was well before the oscar nomination, of which I hope the oscar win will see it reissued.

I will give a nod out to Stranger Things season 3 having a great synth score again.

Biggest disappointments:

Pet Sematary by the otherwise excellent Christopher Young, I'd never think I'd hear the day of a forgettable Chris Young horror score.

Rambo V; shamefully plundering the score for part IV, totally out of place here. It's like the composer said temp track my music for part IV, hand me that check and I'll make it sound a tad different here and there.

Would most of these soundtracks count if you can't buy them at a local record shop? Probably not. Soundtracks have gone downhill for a while now. I think the last good one was The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Such a blanket statement... Where to start?

It's 2020, I haven't been able to buy a good soundtrack in a local record shop for over 20 years. I've been importing scores and buying them from labels worldwide.

I don't think soundtracks have gone downhill, if you watch enough new movies, you'll discover some gems. But you have to make the effort first. So many talented composers active by the way; Alexandre Desplat, Alan Silvestri, Bear Mccreary, Thomas Newman, Benjamin Wallfish, ...

I watch a lot of films. Sometimes two to three a week. And that's not counting what I watch at home. I haven't heard very many that's been great. Mind you I'm speaking of soundtracks mostly (as those are pretty much dead). But I speak of scores as well to some extent. As most scores I've found aren't released in stores/on CD. OR vinyl even. I only do CD and vinyl so for me, if it ain't physical it's not official. And even the ones that have been released have not been all that great. But then, I'm not the biggest score person.
