I won't watch unless I'm bashed over the head with political correctness claptrap...how diverse is the cast? Is there a strong female sorry - gender neutral - lead?

Please explain this to me. Why is Peter Cushing playing the Doctor and not Hartell or Troughton?

They were busy making the show. Back in the 60's the series pretty much shot year round - 50 weeks a year, if I recall right. That's why you would get episodes where the Doctor gets sick and passes out for the next half hour, so they didn't kill poor William Hartell.

Cushing's take on the role is very different to William Hartnell's, more doddery absent minded inventor than impatient grumpy old man.

Even though it's essentially a remake of the 2nd serial of the original 1st season it does a good job of introducing a new audience to the doctor/companions/daleks etc. Though I will say the film does take creative liberties with the characters and mythos that had been established at that point in the series, though not to the detriment to the film itself. As a life long Doctor Who fan I do love the Cushing films, the first one in particular has a good balance of humour and seriousness. |

You absolutely can! Although I'm a lifelong fan of Doctor Who and have been watching for 30+ years, both of the Cushing films (the second being Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 AD, which KL is supposed to be announcing today) were remakes of two William Hartnell serials, but with liberties taken and absolutely made for an audience who didn't know/follow the series. They're definitely worth having in your collection!

How is Cushing in Dr. Who as opposed to At the Earth's Core? Normally I love that dear gentleman, but this one performance, specifically the style of speaking he adopted, like he had been told it was for a Children's Afternoon Hour special, I found annoying.
