Studio Ghibli films - Blu-ray Forum

Films from Studio Ghibli are some of the best animated movies ever made (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Whisper of the Heart, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso, Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind). Any chance they'll be on blu ray soon?

Indeed, they haven't been released in Japan yet. There's exactly one Ghibli Blu-ray out and it's more a 'making of' type of thing, a documentary on studio Ghibli.

I also wish these movies would come out on BD. I have a lot of their movies on DVD (Japanese version) and they're at the top of my Anime list

Actually, there's one more Ghibli BD out, and that's Iblard Jikan, which is like half an hour of movieng pictures from the background designer on Whisper of the Heart. It's gorgeous, but not something I'd add to my collection. Hopefully, they'll start releasing BD's of their feature films in July when Ponyo hits DVD...

Alas we'll have to be very patient to see more of those masterpieces on Blu-ray and even more so for an affordable US or EU version...

i went to the ghibli museum a couple of years back and saw one of the shorts there in the cinema. the pq was incredibly clear so i'm sure that any feature release on bd would look stunning.

If you talking about the background painter documentary, there are English subs on the whole thing

Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind is out on Blu-Ray in the UK now.

I can't believe Nausicaa isn't out in the US yet

I wish Disney would hurry up and get something going...and Japan pumps out a few more! Would love to get my hands on Kiki on blu.

I agree. KiKi is my favorite as well.
