This is one of the ones I don't want. That's why the box isn't going to work for me. Just not a fan.

We need someone like Gandhi today. We took him for granted.

Absolutely need this movie.

If the boxset is the only way to get it for the foreseeable future, I might have to bite.

Day One! Terrific movie about a terrific person. And if that's Sony, there's hope for a lossless original audio, preferably 70 mm 6-Track.

Gandhi is not a movie for everybody. A person need to have the interests and know the history of the story to appreciate a movie like this. The new generation probably wouldn't have a clue to know anything about Gandhi. Ben Kingsley who've won an Oscar for best actor for his phenomenal performance, and a striking resemblance to the real Gandhi had deserved every award that he received.

I haven't seen this yet and since I pre-ordered the Columbia Classics box, good time as any to see it. The clips I've seen look great and I'm always up for a good biopic, especially with Ben Kingsley.

I'm really liking that it appears they're including original audio mixes in addition to the Dolby Atmos - I assume the 5.1 is an adaptation of the 70mm mix and the 2.0 is the 35mm stereo surrround.

Same. Felt like a standard epic. Will wait for individual releases.

actually there seems to be some conflicting information on how the 70mm track mix was mixed/decoded to theaters, it was either five front/mono surround or Dolby A: three front channel / mono surround / 'baby' boom extra bass (4.2); the 35mm would have 4.0 channel (three front/mono surround) culled to 2.0.

Does anyone have a contact at Warner Home Video?
They really need to get moving on an AMADEUS 4K release. Warners is falling behind in 4K catalog releases, even Paramount is making them look bad.

And Sony be killing it with the 6-movie set. Plus 14 more 4K catalogs coming (soon?). Just wow.

Are you a boomer? I saw the film in 1982 when I was living at the beach as a bachelor enjoying the good bachelor life in my 30's. High school and college did not prepare me for the backstory of the movie, but I do remember how much I enjoyed it being based on a true story and how captivating the widescreen and sound track was . . . along with a heart pounding ending.

Then I got married and for the last 37 years I have discovered many backstories to Gandhi . . . and Dr Zhivago, and Lawrence of Arabia . . . and so many others that drove me into the real history. These are the types of films that zap a forgotten principle or moral that was overlooked before.

Yes, the newer generation may only be interested in their Smart Phones, but giving them a chance to watch this great film on a great screen with good sound . . . will probably grab their attention like it did for a lot of boomers back in the day. (which is one reason I have my Oled 65 screen at the foot of our bed and not against the wall . . . so that I become immersed in the scene as "being there" versus watching as a spectator.

Thank you for your comment. It helps me to know someone is here that appreciates good history and good films.

I agree - I'd give my left nut to have Amadeus on 4K UHD
