Default Delayed to 2021?

With the Olympics delayed until next year I have to wonder if the PlayStation 5 will have enough units, scarcity of units or if the games are going to be finished by the expected release date after all 30 hour weeks of crunch time is normal and the times are not exactly normal.

I also wonder if this could mean that we'd have a ps5 pro due to the delayed release ,there's supposed to be a ps5 with real time ray tracing and then one without from what I have heard.

I think you could have posted this in the main PlayStation 5 sticky thread.

Atm, production due to China being back up and running doesn't seem to be changing production timetables for AMD who supply Sony & MS but the economic impact from COVID-19 could see Sony and MS decide to delay things a bit.

No matter how we slice things, economically we're heading for bad times on the level of 2008 right now and no matter if they release in 2021, it will still be a bad time. So better to just release it when possible if that's 2020 or next year.

I’m just not believing anything China is telling us, especially regarding that things are getting better over there. I don’t think they closed all of their movie theaters again because the virus is under control.

AMD has already said they will have enough APU units ready to go for both Xbox and PS5 so no there is no delay in the launch of the PS5

There's more to it than just supply. Sony and MS will have to assess whether or not the economy can even handle a new console rollout in 2020. The economic fallout of this virus is already being profoundly felt and if this thing lingers on into summer and fall, we could be looking at another great depression!

If anything they are reporting video game sales are up almost 50% during this time. I think this will launch as expected. Also anyone laid off during this is getting their jobs back once the cure is out.

Video games are an expensive hobby, so anyone who can afford to buy new video games at $60 each often enough, will probably already have enough saved up for a PS5 $500+ tax and for a few games too. Even a great depression won't keep me from buying one for awhile anyway.

As far as a great depression,
[Show spoiler] the economy will boost back for awhile once all this lock down stuff settles down hopefully by late spring 2020 when warmer temperatures show up. The challenge now is the restaurants and businesses that are forced to be closed because of questionable enforcement. Rather than shut down businesses like bowling alleys, just limit the amount of people that can enter, or something like that.

I mean that's wishful thinking but many jobs (particular with people who work retail and entertainment) may not actually come back depending on how long this thing goes. Even a couple months is going to cause a lot of retail places to fold or at least close down store locations.

Its not really wishful thinking its what many have been told their jobs are waiting for them once the crisis is over.

I don’t think production is the issue with regard of a delay.

My firms production facility is back to 100%, they are in China.
Also worth noting, many big facilities operate on a dormitory basis, all staff, sleep and live on site. So when you get a workforce in place they are very much an isolated entity anyways

I expect everyone's taking a wait n see approach to the launch they can announce launch day and act like it's going to happen then all of a sudden -DUE TO FACTORS BEYOND CONTROL 2021 but if I were Sony I'd wait to the 11th hour before doing anything because if it's delayed now and ms ships then what it's also a good game of chicken but around October we'll know more

I hope it's not delayed. I imagine developers are working from home when possible to keep games on track for the PS5 release window.

Last of Us 2 and Iron Man VR delayed also. There's no way this is coming in 2020.
