Cool. I was literally looking for news of a Blu-ray release last week.

Never thought this would get a BD release since it never got even a DVD release over here. As I understand it, Tattoo was a Joseph E. Levine (Avco Embassy) production but was released by Fox in the US and Handmade Films overseas.
Fox hasn't done much with it in recent years, so this probably comes from StudioCanal (who owns the Avco Embassy/Dino Di Laurentiis catalog) unless proven otherwise. |

A surprising release. The only other time I’ve seen this available was on vhs in the bargain bin at a Bradlee’s in 1995.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about this film. I saw it when it first played in theaters in 1981. Elaborate tattoos were in their infancy back then. My girlfriend at the time had one and I had none. We saw the film and loved it.
It didn't play long and I guess it was considered a flop in some circles. I never saw this blu-ray release coming. Will definitely pick this one up for the memories. ![]() |

Joseph E. Levine had no connection with Avco Embassy after 1974. His post-Embassy projects were independent productions that were pre-sold to different distributors in the various territories. Studio Canal might very well own the film now, but it isn't part of the Embassy library it acquired.

This was one of my adventurous Scream Factory blind buys that would have probably sat in my unwatched stack for a good while. When and if it does come down the pipes on Blu-ray later on, I'll be ready with my wallet. |

"When we originally announced the release, we were very confident we had film elements to make a Blu-ray. As we explained, we unfortunately learned later in the process than we would have liked that we didn't have usable film.

People whine for studios to release what they have the rights to right away, then whine when they cancel a release because the announced a title before they had all the pieces together. Pick one.
