Default Pioneer SC-07 vs Yamaha RX-V3800

I currently own the 3800. But I was told by a friend that the SC 07 would make a difference in my HT. Giving it a stronger sound.

Does anyone know the differences of the two and is is even an upgrade? I love my Yamaha but was curious of if any improvements?

Thanks

Hi Shockwave,

I also have a Yamaha RX-V3800 and am pretty happy with it too. What features on the Pioneer have caught your eye?

He mentioned something about ICE amps. I wanted to know how much of an effect this has on a system campare to what I currently have. Try to do some research on it.

they are just a tougher amp, class D. they dont lose much power in the process or none basically. that 3800 should be good to go and i know its 140 w/c also but may lose 15% in the process. its not quite the sc-07 @140 w/c with that class D, but still a very good one and i feel that you would not need to upgrade to the 07. if you still feel as if you are underpowered get an emotiva 3 channel amp and beef up that front soundstage for under $300 it will put that sc-07 down for the count

I don't know I just bought the SC-05. It replaced an Onkyo 805 and I can't tell you enough how big of a sound difference I am noticing. Now I know its not a 3800 but to be able to tell that big of a difference from a good receiver with the beloved Burr Brown DAC's and beefy power supply it sure says a lot about a product. I would at least give it a try (you can get a SC-07 for $1399 at Best Buy right now) and if you don't notice a difference you can always return it. But either way the Yamaha 3800 and Pioneer Elite SC-05/07 are fantastic receivers.

I meant to say "trying to do some research on it!" The other way makes me sound like a jerk so I am sorry for the typo.

I think I am just going to stick with the Yamaha right now. But I am going to check out the 07 and at least hear it.

I am glad you are happy with your new Pioneer but comparing the upgrade from the Onkyo is different then from a 3800. From what I see not sure I can justify dropping 1300 when I just dropped that for the 3800. If I am going to upgrade it needs to be like what DBlackGT did leaps and bounds over current. I just bought the Yamaha two months ago.

Thanks I am going to check out the emotiva 3 channel amp!

Oh yes and GO GATORS!!

The 3800 also uses Burr Brown 192kHz / 24 bit DACs as well, and both receivers are network enabled too.

Basically, both receivers are on par with each other. The main difference you'd experience switching from the 3800 to the SC-05, is a loss of the $1500 price of the SC-05. If you really want to spend the money, you're better off buying a separate amplifier for use with your RX-V3800. I would suggest checking out the Anthem PVA 7. It's a 7 channel amplifier offering improved sonic quality over both the 3800 and SC-05, and it retails for $1500. You'll end up with much better performance than you would by switching to the SC-05. Here's a review of the PVA 7:

http://www.anthemav.com/NewSitev2.0/...s/TPV_PVA7.pdf

http://www.guidetohometheater.com/am...mp7/index.html

You could also check out 7 channel amps from Rotel, Outlaw, Parasound, or Emotiva, but it will be difficult to beat the sound quality of the PVA 7 at that price point.

Sounds like your friend enjoys trying to spend other people's money.

I agree, buy outboard amps if you're not satisfied with the power output of the Yamaha. I own a 3800 as well and have vague plans to get some Rotel amplification for the front three channels if I do better than expected come tax-return time... not really because I think there's anything lacking, but because it makes it easier to contemplate separates next time I need to upgrade my receiver.

An interesting note from the Audioholics review of the Yamaha RX-Z7, btw:

Quote:
Unlike the Pioneer SC-07 (which utilized Class D ICE amplification) I had in review at the same time, the Yamaha did NOT have any issues driving 4 ohm loads at full power and bandwidth.

+1

I was also recommended the PVA 7 from prerich a few months down the road

Don't sell the 3800 .It's a good receiver .You have different options which King has given info for,If you ask me this is the way you want to go.Shoot down the road i might be grabbing the PVA 7 for myself.

Good luck with any decision you make

Per Pioneer.com the SC-05 does NOT offer Burr Brown 192kHz / 24 bit DACs....That feature is only offered on the SC-07 & up.

Per pioneer.com:

"The SC-07 was designed to serve as the heart of the most complex of systems—to create a truly seamless experience. Four HDMI® inputs provide the highest quality connections for a full range of state of the art playback. The Faroudja® 1080p Video Scaler upscales video regardless of format, for exceptional picture quality. The SC-07 also features a Burr-Brown™ 8-channel Sampling Rate Converter for jitter reduction in all audio formats, as well as Wolfson digital to analog converters for full 192 khz audio performance."

I understand your point about DAC but unlike the SC-05 the the SC-07 also offers "Burr-Brown™ 8-channel Sampling Rate Converter for jitter reduction in all audio formats"

Am I missing something?
