As a Swede I'm absolutely gutted by the non-theatrical translation. This isn't a Hong Kong action flick; it's absolutely vital to translate the dialogue accurately to grasp the emotions and thoughts of the characters and the overall mood of the scenes (and the movie in general).

I'm happy to hear that they have decided to fix it for the new releases but it's still a disgrace that they won't exchange the first batch(es).

I think watching this film without lossless is doing it a disservice. The dialogue is so crisp and clear. You feel the chill in the in the air! And the low frequency pulses throughout the movie are siiiiiick.

I guess I'll wait for the new version and try and do a swap out.

Subtitling is a very tricky craft: you must have subtitles short enough that everybody can read them, but without sacrificing any vital part of the message.

I agree. The sound design on this is amazing with a lot of use of subtle sounds like the little growls that Eli makes, soft breathing, even tinkling snowflakes that the lossless track simply brings to life. Then all of a sudden the bass comes to life when Eli pounces or someone bangs on the door.

Whether they allow exchanges or not, I will buy get the new version. Got the dvd version too (I know, gross right) because it had one of those shifting picture things like on pogs back in the day. Totally worth it.

Does anyone know about the Canadian release? Apprently someone on iconsoffright.com was saying the Canadian version has the correct subtitles (same as the theatre) and also has the lossless audio.
Any truth to this?

I wrote them an email as well. Telling them I'm not buying anymore of their sub-standard products, and will be informing everyone I know to do the same.

I still enjoyed the movie. It just irks me that they knowingly released a product of low quality, obviously they agree it was low if they are going to re-release it.

Hope some good news comes out of this!

Some one else commented that he also got the Canadian release, but he said it's the same as the US release with the wrong subs. I wouldn't take the risk trying out.

While they're at it, how about making the Swedish (with theatrical english subtitles) the default audio track? Say no to dubbed audio!

^Yep, it's a sin that it defaults to the crap English dub. Unfortunately a lot of people will unknowingly leave it and be subjected to terrible voice acting.

If you read the official reply from the company.. the current subtitles are not incorrect at all. The company chose to change them from the theatrical version.. there was no mistake made to warrant anything being incorrect. They are just changing them to a different version to appeal fans.
