Default Need advice please

I am looking to replace my living room tv. I currently have a Philips 51'" tv that has compents hook ups but no hdmi. I bought a samsung blu ray and tried compents but it wont work. Is this a decent deal on this Vizio? It says 720 and I really would prefer 1080 but it says it does 1080i in part of the info. Any helpwould be appreciated please. I would mainly be using it for blu ray movies and normal tv. I haven't got hd tv yet.

If you're willing to pay that much...i'd suggest this tv. You won't regret it...

You need a TV that does 1080p, or you are not getting the full benefits of blu-ray. So, no is the technical answer, but you would see improvement over your Phillips with that TV. I want to help you, but right now I'm not going to get into a discussion of what TV is best for you at 1080p, as there are too many variables and opinions, unless you want to know more about other 1080p TV's. Then you might want to use the search, as that will provide a ton of info for you to make a good decision. I'll just stick to the question at hand.

By the way, if you do get a 1080p TV, you will need a HDMI cable from your player to the TV to get the 1080p picture quality.

To get the benefits of the sound quality, then we will be getting into a receiver, speakers, etc.....

Everyone else feel free to add......

Ok so I noticed my Philips, which is actually a projection tv, has a dvi input. So I tried a HDMI to DVI cord and it works in 1080i now. I am happy with the over all look. I may just look into upgrading my sound system now and geta new tv next tax season lol

Good decision! What would your budget be like for upgrading the audio portion of your setup? Do you currently have?

Very little to spend lol my wide spent alot after I told her I didn't need/want a new tv now. I have an older Sony. It seems to not have much power. I have speaker wire ran through the room her dad had done years ago. So I prefer to not redo that stuff myself if possible. Any suggestions on something good but cheap?
