Does this have closure or was it canceled before it was finished?

Good luck. S3 and S4 will probably cost you 2x as much as this series set.

Only if this ends up for ~$30, but it looks like the MC release is 8 discs versus the 10 discs for the Universal releases combined.

S3 and S4 are going for $30 a piece.

I'm sure there is better encoding on the Uni releases, MC is known for compressing episodes onto disc.

Full closure - they knew 2 seasons in advance. Built to a fantastic finale.

I agree completely - loved this series all the way to the end. Quite a rarity.

Yes, but it would only cost 2x as much if the MC set ends up at $30. Either way, as you've mentioned, the MC set will have worse compression making it worth while to get the individual Universal sets.

Mill Creek just likes torturing the people to whom it matters if the standalone season discs are higher quality or have extras.

And of course Mill Creek’s website does not bother to say if they are including the extras. All part of their torture plan.

Ok, i’ll get it regardless, because at least there wont be a disc-exchange problem with the last episode.

I will get this, just because it was a rare attempt to flesh out an interesting world and succeeded immensely. And it got proper closure, so there is that.

I'm looking forward to this release. I've got the standalone sets for seasons 1 & 2 but never got around to picking up seasons 3 & 4. The latter seasons were MOD releases and I really didn't feel like spending that much on BD-R discs (especially given I've always found the prices on this sort of MOD release tend to be inflated well beyond just the exchange rate when trying to buy them up here in Canada, it's like they can only burn them in the US and so I'd have to foot the bill on the international shipping fees).

One thing to keep in mind, seasons 1 & 2 were each 13 episodes long spread out over 3 discs each on the previous sets while seasons 3 & 4 were 10 and 11 episodes respectively burned onto those 2-discs MOD releases. The first two seasons on this new set will definitely be more compressed then the discs I already own, but I don't see why seasons 3 & 4 would have worse picture quality comapred to the existing MOD sets. They're putting the same number of episodes onto the same number of discs.

Really the only way I could see seasons 3 and 4 looking worse on these new discs is if they somehow think they could reasonably cram all the episodes onto single-layer discs rather then dual-layer. Is that the kind of thing Mill Creek would do to cut costs?

As far as I'm aware, none of the 12 Monkeys Seasons were ever released on burned discs -- at least not in the US.

You might be able to argue they were overcompressed or not good transfers as Universal items often get, but they were on normal pressed/replicated discs

S1 and 2 (3-disc sets) had approx 190 minutes per disc
S3 and 4 (2 disc sets) had 240 minutes per disc

The Mill Creek sets now appear to have compressed that to over 260 min average per disc

Hmm, I've always saw those seasons listed as being Manufacture On Demand titles, which AFAIK would automatically mean BD-Rs. Unless the meaning of MOD has drastically changed over the years I can't see how it could apply to any kind of pressed disc. If they were pressed then great, they're pricier up here in Canada then I'm willing to pay separately so I'll probably settle for Mill Creek's set.

Are the Universal ones compressed? I guess if they were to drop the bonus features, that could help the image quality some.

They're MOD, but MOD doesn't always mean BD-R, but BD-R is always MOD. There's plenty of MOD titles that are pressed, like WAC for example.

MOD could mean small scale online only pressed releases like Warner Archive or BD-R. Universal MOD releases are all pressed.
