List of iTunes titles where an HD code will redeem in 4K

[XXXsdesdeXXX]

List of titles that will redeem on iTunes in 4K with HD codes. NOTE: The title must be 4K on iTunes at the moment of redemption, otherwise it will redeem HD. Also note that if you redeemed the title before iTunes added it in 4K, or while the title was not 4K at iTunes, that it will still upgrade to 4K on iTunes, but it will never port to Movies Anywhere in 4K (it will port to Movies Anywhere in HD). Titles that are MA will port from iTunes to MA in 4K and then to other providers that have those titles in 4K in 4K; if the title is not currently 4K at another MA provider but is added later, it will be 4K there once added at that provider. I used the 4k Sheet provided at 4ksheet.com to compile this list. Some titles never had a regular Blu-ray release that came with an HD digital code such as Braveheart and Gladiator, for example, so those will require 4K codes and I left them off of this list. Please note that digital copies that require a disc or XML file to redeem, will redeem in Standard Definition (SD) and will not upgrade to 4K.

You don't really need the list anymore. The rules outlined in the first posting still apply. If you have an HD code that redeems in iTunes, the movie will get the 4K upgrade if/when available. If 4K is already available at the time of redemption and the title is MA-eligible, it will also propagate to MA in 4K.

I think it’s pretty much only Paramount and Lionsgate that have an iTunes redemption option in the US.
I’m not 100% on the other studios as most use MA but I’m sure someone will have more knowledge.

That actually helps me out a lot. I can plan on now spending $15 if I want Underwater in 4k at release, instead of searching around for a code that doesn't exist. While The Rhythm Section should have a code from someone's blu ray I can redeem for 4k in iTunes

In the UK Underwater currently has a pre-order price of £9.99 ($12.46’ish), not sure when the release date will be though.

Studios that never provide iTunes codes: 20th Century Fox, Sony, Universal, Warner.

Disney, Paramount, Lionsgate often (but not always) provide them.

Old Fox codes still sometimes redeem iTunes - you should always check FoxRedeem.com to see if iTunes is an option before burning a code on MA.

Disney usually does, but given their unfriendliness to iTunes, one should always redeem 4K codes in MA to get 4K rights. I sometimes redeem HD codes in iTunes in case someday Disney plays nice and offers 4K upgrades.

For Lionsgate, they almost always give an iTunes/AppleTV option UNLESS it's a movie from A24 they are just handling the home video on. Then there's never an iTunes option for whatever reason.

When I check these same codes on universalredeem.com. They are still valid giving me the 2 options of VUDU and MA.

I noticed this with other Universal titles like Sing or Despicable me. They can no longer be redeemed on itunes closing the 4k loophole. Don't know if it's for all of their titles (since 4ksheet hasn't been updated).

Yes... you need to redeem at redeemdigitalmovie and select “itunes”. So far the only Disney HD MA code that does not offer an iTunes redemption at redeemdigitalmovie that I’ve come across is Onward.

My old digital copies of Back To The Future just updated to 4K, but there’s still a purchase option in the iTunes Store (instead of he download cloud like usual).

On the other hand, Jaws has a cloud icon for the 4K version in the store but it’s not showing up as 4K in my library.

Anyone know what this is about or encountered this with any of their other digital copies?
