I only know one person who sometimes buys Blu Rays and they tend to only buy MCU/ Star Wars stuff. I was thinking about this recently and how i barely know anyone in my own life who actually buys blu rays. Even my buddies who are "film fans" don't buy ANY discs, they just pirate or wait for stuff to show up for free on streaming sites.
What's it like for you guys? Do you know lots of people who buy blu rays? Last edited by BigNickUK; 04-18-2020 at 05:35 PM. |

My oldman occasionally buys blu rays, most of the time its dvds. But apart from that no one.
All of my friends just watch stuff on netflix or amazon tv and people who i work with still buy dvds. When I say to someone I just bought ..... on blu ray, I always get the look. |

I used to know people who collected LDs and DVDs. I dare say they still do (buy physical media) but we have lost touch with one another.
My brother buys a few and my nephew does as well. At work, most people seem to still buy DVDs. Or torrent ![]() Last edited by Ste7en; 04-15-2020 at 01:06 PM. |

During film discussions (very brief ones) at work i've offered to lend somebody a disc only to find they don't have any equipment to play it on, not even a DVD player!! |

Some people I know who have kids buy kids stuff on DVD. But other than that, no. Most people I know dumped their collections within the last 5 years. And the people who don't have videogame consoles don't even have any machine that would play a disc in their homes.
When mates visit me, there's frequently a nostalgic moment when they see I have shelves with discs on them. Then they say something about missing the old days of going to the videostore etc. But I guess they don't miss it that much or those places would still be in business. |

My best mate. We share a lot of common interests in terms of films so we're always talking about the boutique labels stuff esp.

I still buy physical for 1) sound and image quality, 2) the extra's and packaging, and 3) the warm, fuzzy feeling of security that I can still count on watching my movies should the internet have an outage or the movie suddenly disappears from Netflix or wht have you.

I must have kept our office post room in business with the number of parcels I used to get delivered before this WFH. Although we’re not supposed to get personal deliveries at work they are happy to take mine. Have known them for years and regularly bribe them with chocolates and biscuits ![]() Only one at work who seems to buy though. My brother in law buys an occasional disc mainly UHD steelbooks. My sister won’t let him buy more. |

I have only one friend who also collects though he restricts himself mainly to DVD as he thinks Blu-rays are too clean and fake looking!? I also have 167 PS4 games and around 2k music CD's as well as my Blu-rays and will continue to purchase physical product as long as it's available. My other friends find my collecting rather odd!

Nope. All the kids I work with don't buy physical media in any form and even in my previous job with a few more tech-minded folk I was still the only one buying Blu as DVD was "good enough" for them. I'm probably the only person in the entire isle of Purbeck who actually buys 4K discs, or knows what it is

I consider myself very very lucky - my two best mates buy / collect blu-ray and are huge movie-geeks as well. Although we can enjoy almost every movie together, each one has a distinct collection style. One is more into Horror, the other everything 80s and myself is more into 70s eurocult and hong kong action.
