The 4K 3D is a no go. But I wouldn't rule out going to 12 bits panels as 8K becomes more mainstream. 12 bits are regulated to only professional video mastering displays currently but given that it will be a long time for anyone to needs the resolution of 16k the TV vendors are limited in the directions they can enhance a product.

I see VR and holographic TV's are the direction 3D has moved to by the industry.
