And I'm sure they will think of new applications that 8K and up will be a benefit for tek we haven't dreamt of yet. Who would have thought we would ever have an a portable wireless phone that serves as a personal computer back in the 90's when a personal computer was an enormous cube that took all day to work. I remember older people talking about how useless they were and how they were a fad that people with to much money would buy just to keep up with Jonses lol

I think 8K is pretty pointless when most people don't even buy stuff in 4K. |

Samsung and TLC have 8k TVs for sale. Now, when will we see the first batch of 8k movies? Even modern UHD are upscaled 2k, ffs!

Blu-rays are probably the last stop for me and my physical media collecting. For the kinds of films I like, 4K just doesn’t make sense. I remember saying that about dvds though so who knows. I wonder how long companies will continue to release films on blu-ray.

Plus the adoption rate of 4K will never reach HDTV/Blu-ray levels, so I can see Blu-rays being made for more than another decade. |

If 8K does make it to home media, it (optimistically) might be bundled with 12-bit, improved HDR, a bigger color space than BT.2020 and BT.2100, and H.266/MPEG-I VVC. Maybe 16-bit might (optimistically) bring 3D into the mix, plus H.267.

![]() stranger things have happened - although i do not 'currently understand it' (the logic/practicality of it) - 'someday' 8K 'will be' common place - 'or' coexist in a reality of 'all' currently available video formats (SD/SDR - HD/SDR - UHD/HDR) "strange thinking"? |

Manner to cover your bases, there. it may not ever be a home media format except for perhaps a short fad. so it will and it won't.
