Based on Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel, Normal People is an exquisite, modern love story about how one person can unexpectedly change another person's life and about how complicated intimacy can be. It follows Marianne and Connell over several years, as they embark on an on-again/off-again romance that starts at school and continues through college, both testing their relationship as they explore different versions of themselves.

I've watched the first 6 episodes. I LOVE it. Sexy and romantic. Both leads are lovely. I ordered the book after watching the first four and will read that after I finish the show.

I thought it was very good too. I thought there was some excellent acting from the two leads and their chemistry really worked. It has lingered on in my mind for a few days now.

Such a terrific show. Loved the Italy episode. Kind of reminded me of Call Me By Your Name at times. And overall this reminded me of the Before trilogy.

My friend said it does. He said he's never seen a more faithful book adaptation. The dialogue and everything is the same. He said there's basically nothing different. I'm almost not even looking forward to reading the book now since I just watched the show.

I watched the show and I'm currently the book. While the show really is faithful to the plot of the book, you do get deeper character exploration that will help you appreciate the show more. There's the inner monologues that pieces of plot that the show omits (such as a visit to Connell's grandmother at the hospital) that makes the book richer

Oooh very nice. I was hoping that would be the case but my friend said the show delved into the characters better than the book, which isn't usually true.

Looking forward to maybe watching 3 or 4 at a time next.

A bit too humorless and repetitive imo... but I kind of enjoyed it overall.

The two leads were great and I grew to care about the characters as the season went along.

1 and 2 are the weakest ones. Episode 1 was mundane and felt like nothing was going on and episode 2 was basically 90% sex... 3-12 had their moments but were overall very good. The hype makes it seem perfect, but it wasn't THAT great.

I would've personally liked a little more background with Marianne and her family. That dynamic made no sense to me, they didn't offer any sort of explanation on why her brother is a garbage or why her mother is so cold, it was just shit all around. I'd have also liked more to the ending, it's apparently not as open ended as the book, but it was still pretty up in the air... so I'd have liked maybe 5ish more minutes with something like

[Show spoiler]Connell showing up a year later after his New York course is over and just standing in the distance watching Marianne and then her noticing him.

It wouldn't be a concrete ending, but it'd offer a little more closure.

Marianne's family really sucked ass. Just a little information on how that shit show came about would have been nice. Not only is her brother downright dangerous, but the way her mother did nothing to abate the situation at all, and then

in one of the last episodes, is just baffling.

Finished season one. I liked how they matured along the way (and it sure had a lot of sex, not that I'm complaining).

Oh yeah, I read that Season 2 is confirmed so that's good news.

I haven't heard anything about a new season, but it'd probably be a bad idea. The book ends where the show does, actually a little before, so they'd have no source material to adapt.

I heard they were doing two Comic Relief specials set 40 years in the future though.
