Seasons 1-3 were up-scaled and released on Blu-Ray by Davis-Panzer with VEI later annoucing a new box-set. No release date set yet.

I've honestly never seen any of these films (yeah, shoot me), so I won't judge them on a personal level, but from what I've heard, the first movie is quite cheesy and over-the-top, but has its fans.

However, the sequels I've heard ARE that bad. Really bad.

I like all the Highlander films (except The Source) & I really like the TV series. The Raven not so much though.

The info in the top post isn't entirely accurate.

Highlander 1 is the international cut on all BD's.

Also the international cut of Highlander 3 got released on DVD in the U.S. in 2005.

Highlander 3 got a re-release in the U.S. in the mid 00's on DVD, which as the international cut.

For Highlander 3? Yeah the Aussie and German BD's have the international cut.

The Japanese BD is a weird one. It's actually a hybrid of the U.S. theatrical cut and the international cut.

So it's basically a new version of the film.

Yeah I had the animated series. Unfortunately I rewatched the TV series recently and wanted to watch the animated series again...but I can't find the disc anywhere... which is unusual I typically never don't put disc back when I'm done watching them... my fear is it may have been in an old dvd player I got rid of... I would still kill for a proper bluray release of the show...

Well, then...that's the probably the version that got theatrically released in Japan! I have the Japan Blus for this and H2, but haven't gotten around to really looking or comparing, yet. I also have the Canadian DVD of H3...better cover/poster art!

I also have RUSSIAN (yes official) DVDs of THE SOURCE and ENDGAME: The Source disc has the originally-released version, a superior cut (if that means anything) without the annoying Anna narration and with actual movie-quality title card and credits! The Russian Endgame DVD is one of the only other places in the world to get the original Theatrical cut of that one (at least...the theatrical cut that we got in the US).

All five of the Highlander films are unique in the sense that they often varied cuts with minor differences depending on international territories!

It'd be nice to have the missing scene of Connor & Louise breaking into Shield Control from the Renegade Cut restored to the "Special Edition" version that's on Blu-ray, to explain how they got in. That would be my perfect version of H2.

I realized a while back, I don't think I've ever actually seen the US theatrical cut - which I think is the version that earned the film most of it's poor reputation - so my opinion of the movie is based largely on the European version, which apparently is much closer to the later and much better received Renegade cut.

But, I kind of agree with you on the "super cut" idea, because I think what is actually the closest thing to a "true" director's cut of the movie is the European cut with the so called fairy tale ending. While I appreciate the effort in fixing the movie up for the special edition, I still think that Zeist was fully what Mulcahy wanted, and replacing it with some vague distant past setting is just retroactive tinkering in response to the fan backlash. So what I'd like to see is basically that European cut, but with the visual and editing tweaks of the Special Edition.

I forget who it was who said it regarding the fairy tale ending, but it was basically "it's still stupid, but at least it makes sense in the context of the movie".

I think the reason I like it so much is just the fact that I have a soft spot for these odd mixed genre movies; I certainly can't think of another movie that combines cyberpunk with urban fantasy.

So many countries, so many distributors, it's a shame there's no US and/or European theatrical cut Blu-ray of Highlander II. I watch the TF1 DVD occasionally, it is wretched.

Fun Fact: The SE version is incomplete. The restoration team ran out of money before they could complete the work because the project was financed by Panzer-Davis and it was a total loss for them, which led to the company going under.

I keep hoping for a 4k UHD of the original film. Was there ever a release of Highlander TV (besides the DVDs) in the original 4x3 ratio? The cropped upscale just doesn't look great on places like Amazon Prime. I'd much rather an upscale in 4x3. Is that new set mentioned above supposed to be 4x3?

Is this an actual upcoming release that's gonna happen? Saw that they haven't set a date yet for it. Would be great to finally get Seasons 4-6 of the TV series on BD at long last.
