Default AMC's "Interview With The Vampire" (Season 2)

Anne Rice’s ‘Vampire Chronicles,’ ‘Lives of the Mayfair Witches’ Rights Land at AMC

Quote:
AMC Networks has acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s best-selling book series “The Vampire Chronicles” and “The Lives of the Mayfair Witches,” Variety has learned exclusively.

AMC now holds the comprehensive rights for the much sought-after intellectual property and will develop film and television projects for its own television networks and streaming services under the AMC Studios umbrella as well as external partner licensing. Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice will serve as executive producers on all series and films developed under the deal.

Rolin Jones, who recently signed an overall development deal with AMC Studios, will be directly involved in developing projects based on the Rice catalog for television. The deal encompasses 18 titles between the two book series, which together have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide. Among the books in the two series are “Interview with the Vampire,” “Queen of the Damned,” “The Vampire Lestat,” and “The Witching Hour.”

I remember reading a lot of the vampire and witch books when I was younger, probably too young to be reading them, because my mom was a big Anne Rice fan... so I'm in for this. I just hope they don't TWD it and drag out plot points that don't need to last 80 years lol

These books can get pretty um...uh...sexy at times so I wonder how far AMC will let them stretch the material?

They're Young Adult novels compared to something like the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series.

Finally greenlit to series:

‘Interview With the Vampire’ TV Series Set at AMC

Quote:
AMC has greenlit an TV series adaptation of “Interview with the Vampire,” based on Anne Rice’s popular novels.

Last year, AMC acquired the rights to Rice’s bestselling “Vampire Chronicles” and “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” book series, giving the network access to develop film and television projects from any of the 18 titles under both best-selling series.

The series will be available on both AMC and AMC+.

The author and her son Christopher Rice will serve as executive producers on all series and films under their deal with AMC, which gives the network and its external partners comprehensive rights to develop projects using Rice’s intellectual property.

The series has been greenlit for an eight-episode first season. Mark Johnson is spearheading AMC’s development for its entire Rice catalog.

The Rices have been trying to develop a series based on “The Vampire Chronicles” for years. In July 2018 there was a project set up at Hulu that did not move forward.

I wonder how they'll do it. One book per season, or a mish-mash?

I'd personally like the "big three" done that way, but I don't see how it would possibly work for the whole run.

Maybe just follow Louis and Lestat, leaving some of the other bits for spin-off material if it's a hit?

Well looks like they've finally given me a reason to subscribe to AMC+

I'v been a fan of the original movie since I was a kid and finally got around to reading the first half-dozen of the novels the last year, so needless to say I'm excited for this!

The casting of Louis and Lestat will be absolutely critical.

Hey, no issue with a race swap if the actor was right.

Gender swap - no way! That would piss all over the gay subtext that's vital to those two characters.

I only have a problem with race swap when they're described as one way in the books, if it's just changing race based on previous live-action versions then it doesn't bother me.

I'd have liked to maybe have stuff we haven't seen yet first, but I guess they might be doing it chronologically and I'm still interested.

INTERVIEW with Cher playing Louis was greenlit in the 1980s.

Anne Rice also has enough racial diversity, women, and LGBT characters in The Vampire Chronicles for them not to have to add or change things.
