Default Rumour: Jak & Daxter PS5 Remake Launch Title

Developer Bluepoint Games is reportedly working on a Jak & Daxter PS5 remake, with plans to release the project in time for the console’s launch this holiday season. It’s apparently called Jak & Daxter Re-Trilogy, and is a remake of all three games.

This rumor has been doing the rounds over the past few days and originates from 4Chan (via GameRant), which should immediately set alarm bells ringing. These guys are notorious for posting rubbish rumors, and have a dodgy track record to say the least.

While the prospect of a Jak & Daxter PS5 remake is obviously an exciting one, Bluepoint hasn’t confirmed anything about its future project(s) right now, so there’s absolutely no reason to believe they’re revamping Naughty Dog’s iconic PS2-era platform trilogy.

Beyond Jak & Daxter, Bluepoint has also been rumored to be working on the likes of Demon’s Souls and Metal Gear Solid. All we know is that the studio’s next project will be PS5-bound.

Last year, Bluepoint revealed that the mystery title will be the ‘achievement we’re most proud of.’ Let’s hope we get a look at it soon, eh?

New Sly Cooper game instead please

I bought the PS3 collection of these games a few years back and did not like them at all.

I don't know what Bluepoint are working on but i sure as heck hope they nail it for a launch title and part of me wants it to be a Syphon Filter remake but we'll see lol. Maybe it's none of the rumours which would kinda be cool but also bad if it doesn't excite us.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love a new Jak and Daxter but I believe its Demons Souls as well.

Since Jak II was the theoretical demonstration for level design in Mark Cerny's presentation, this seems like a good choice.

I would like to see Bluepoint remaster MGS: The Twin Snakes, they did a decent job w/ MGS HD Collection. My favorite from them is their Flower remake (seriously). I doubt this is the proudest achievement mentioned, but I do feel like this is the game that will be running at 8K and 60+fps with 3D audio. It would be a very easy to grasp demonstrator for a lot of the advancements Sony is pushing other than SSD speed.

I love these games and would be more than happy with just a 4K remaster of the originals but this would be excellent. I don't see it happening though, as much as I would like it to.

For a start, I'm not sure Jak & Daxter have as much cultural cache as some of the other games getting remasters and so remastering these games feels like a riskier proposition than something like THPS, Crash Bandicoot or Spyro.

They're more similar in popularity to Ratchet & Clank, I think. Now Ratchet & Clank did get a remake but it came from the original developer, Insomniac. If Naughty Dog said to Sony that they would like to remake the games then I have no doubt that they would happen but I don't think Naughty Dog are a studio to look backwards and they certainly don't need to. Bluepoint could well remake these, as per the rumour, but I think that initiative would have to be driven by Sony who I don't think need J&D right now.

The last thing is that this trilogy I think would require a lot of work compared with other games that have been remade from the ground up. Loads of character models, big open worlds, constant switch up of gameplay styles, vehicles with different physics - a lot of places where I think they could trip up. The appeal of remaking older games to publishers is that they're relatively simple to make by today's standards and can therefore be made relatively cheaply and can get good sales from a built in audience. Unless the team have access to a lot of ND's coding and literally just have to re-skin the games, I'm not sure the risk/reward would quite be there for the publishers.

100% hope I'm wrong though.

The only reason I could see this happening is because it's important to have some family friendly games available at the launch of your console. Knack wasn't a known quantity and it wasn't very good but it sold over a million units. Why? Because it was a launch title and there wasn't very much else to play. A Jak and Daxter Remake would be an infinitely superior product over Knack. Besides that, a lot of PlayStation die hards buy launch consoles. They will be very familiar with the IP and nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

It would be amazing to be able to pick up a remade J&D trilogy on launch day. Would be just about the best way the PS5 could launch for me, as a massive fan of the series.

Re: Family friendly games. Aren't Ratchet & Clank rumoured for the PS5 launch window? Or was that debunked? Also, a new Crash Bandicoot game is expected to be announced very soon.

All rumors as of now. Honestly, I would much rather see a new Ratchet from Insomniac before a new Spiderman. To me, it's just not time for that yet. It's still been too soon since last one came out.
