Default Clerks & Chasing Amy in July

According to Kevin Smith (heard on his podcast), Clerks and Chasing Amy will be available on Blu-ray in July. Clerks will have all of the extras included on the Clerks X release, plus another documentary and a few more features. I don't recall hearing any specifics on Chasing Amy.

Also, a three pack is supposed to be available and will include Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

If this is true this is the best news I have heard this year!! The Kevin Smith trilogy of Clerks/Chasing Amy/Mallrats are at the top of my all time favorite movie list. I don't think Blu-ray will benefit Clerks in any way and that is actually fine by me. I actually hope they do not clean this one up and DNR the crap out of it. Day one purchase for sure!

then I saw another interview where he said Clerks would be a waste on blu-ray due to the quality of the content?

He mentions that he told them he thought it was kind of pointless, but I guess they wanted to do it anyway, so he told them while they were at it they should put out Chasing Amy, and they agreed.

It was shot on film, so there should be some improvement on Blu-ray. Texas Chainsaw Massacre isn't winning any awards for pristine video quality, but it still looks significantly better on Blu-ray than any of its previous DVD releases.

That may have been a self-deprecating comment that wasn't meant to be taken seriously though.

Clerks is one of my all-time favorites and I just watched it in the theater last Friday (yes, on the big screen!).

Chasing Amy (while good) isn't going to make the cut for movies I will be upgrading from DVD to BD. Thanks for the news!!

Or you could just import Chasing Amy from Canada, as it releases there next week!

I just remembered that he mentioned having footage from the 10th anniversary Q&A on the Chasing Amy Blu-ray.

He said that he wanted/wants to put that Q&A on there but that he's not sure Criterion will let him. He brought up the point that since this will be the first release on BD that he might have a chance.

Why would it be up to Criterion? I know they refused to re-release Chasing Amy on Blu-ray, and the Q&A was done well after Criterion released their version. I couldn't find anything regarding Criterion having any say over the new release, other than it wouldn't be released through them.

Put me down for both!!!!!!! Man I love the original clerks. I wish mallrats would come sooner than later. If nothing else, just for joey adams in the ole dressing room . The funny thing is that Kevin says that he regrets having her do that scene. And that he always wishes that he would have not had her be nude. Oh well . My Smith blu-ray collection will be complete, except for mallrats. They can keep jersery girl locked up in a vault .

That was from months ago.

And everything looks better in Blu-ray. Even if it's budget 16mm or whatever. It'll look better displayed at a higher native resolution. Anyway, it's really the studio that decides anyway, so they probably just decided that people would buy Clerks. even if it had less to gain from the better transfer. I mean, if I watch a movie, it's going to be at 1920x1080 no matter what, so I'd rather watch it at that resolution natively.

After these two gems, that's the only one left, isn't it?

Well, there's Jersey Girl, but that's not in the linked continuity.

I would buy Clerks as well. There's going to be some improvement over the DVD, I know that. I think Clerks will look fine.

Clerks didn't look very good on Showtime HD. But that doesn't mean it won't show at least some improvement on Blu-ray. Still, Clerks and Chasing Amy were both shot in 16mm if I'm not mistaken, so there's only so much that can be done with these films.
