Talking Jonah Hex Casting News

I love this casting and the news of potential sequels!!!

Source: The Hollywood Reporter
April 1, 2009

Will Arnett and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon will star in Jonah Hex, Warner Bros. and Legendary's action Western based on the DC Comics character, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Jimmy Hayward is directing the film, whose cast also includes Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Megan Fox. It's the story of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of the undead to liberate the South.

Arnett will play a Union soldier who enlists Hex and is blindsided by the dirty fighting style of his enemies. The role is not inherently comic.

Shannon plays Doc Cross Williams, the bizarre ringleader of a brutal gladiator circus event. The character might appear in sequels.

Legendary is co-producing and co-financing the pic, which is due to start production this month in Louisiana.

I usually find westerns boring, "Other than Unforgiven" but this sounds interesting.

Looks good . The cast has shaped up well and from what I've seen of the character of Johan Hex (from some comics / an episode of the Batman: Animated Series), I will definitely keep this film on my radar

Josh Brolin? Sweet, that's perfect casting. Check him out in "W." and "No Country for Old Men" to see just how good that casting choice is.

Note that if this is a joke I'm going to throttle you.

No, I'm reporting it as actual news, I don't have any indication that this was a joke, but Brolin has been cast as Jonah for probably 4-5 months now, so I can guarantee that's legit.

Will Arnett is so underrated. Sounds like he's playing a dramatic role, could be interesting.

I love Johah Hex, and grew up on the comics. Now how about a movie with Rawhide Kid, Kid Colt, Scalphunter, Outlaw Kid, or the Two-Gun Kid?

I can see why they picked Jonah Hex. This movie will be marketed as a western and not a comic book movie. The cast looks great on paper.

If you look at his other credits it's because he was a Pixar animator for all of the big hits, that just shows you he was really good at what he did. I'm gonna wait until I see set photos or a trailer before I make any statements. Brolin and the rest of the casting is fantastic. Here's Jimmy Hayward's animation credits:

Finding Nemo (2003) (animator)
Monsters, Inc. (2001) (animator)
Toy Story 2 (1999) (animator)
A Bug's Life (1998) (additional animator)
Toy Story (1995) (animator)

if you want to make a serious Jonah Hex movie you need to keep cgi at a bare minimum or remove it altogether. having a guy whose entire career is based in animation direct it is asking for trouble.

I hope he surprises me

I would imagine like all movies now, they will use CGI and give him that GOD AWFUL Two-Face Dark Knight CGI look that for me ruined Aaron's scenes. I pray they use a great makeup artist for his deformities.
