One of those films that I was always surprised to remember hadn't been released on Blu-Ray anywhere yet - I'm very glad to see that rectified, and by Criterion to boot. Hopefully Trouble Every Day, U.S. Go Home, and Nénette and Boni aren't too far behind.

A complete masterpiece finally getting a much needed hi-def release. Well done, Criterion!
I was lucky enough to see this projected on 35mm w/Denis speaking in person afterwards at Emory University a few years back. She referred to the legendary last scene as [Show spoiler] . I don't think she's made a film as great since, but her work is never less than completely unique and challenging. Here's to hoping Criterion have some more releases from her up their sleeves. L'intrus and Trouble Every Day please! |

When there turns out to be black crush on the disc, well, we can’t say Criterion didn’t warn us.

This film is absolutely stunning. I wonder if we'll ever get a 4K release? It looks superb already, but a man can dream.

I walked into a B&N today and saw this film. Read the description, and I didn’t know it was based on a Melville short story. What are you thoughts on it? I’m tempted to pick it up, but seeing it’s a 4K remaster perhaps there might be a 4K on the horizon?

I blind buy a lot of movies and I wouldn’t personally recommend a blind buy on this one. I watched it on Max streaming last month and it wasn’t holding my attention. I definitely need to rewatch it sometime. So I suggest streaming it first.

Finally watched this tonight (a blind-buy) with my movie group. Fascinating film and a lot of great discussion afterwards. Also enjoyed reading the accompanying essay.
Then I read Svet’s review. Not sure he watched the same film as the rest of us ![]() |

I seen this in the cinema and the ending just blew me away. I'm smiling now just thinking about
![]() Just loved the film like everything Claire Denis has done. Go dig up all her films. ![]() I've read Dr. Svet's review and it's very good. He likes the film and the release so not sure what you mean. |

For me, I don't tend to pick at films' meanings too much and avoid anything that 'explains' something. I like to leave it to my imagination and soak up vibe. If I was forced to have a very short thought on the film it's just about keeping in line, being forced to stay in that line and showing a bit of yourself and your life's regrets when you fall out of that line. That's just the headline of course but there's much more there for me but I'd rather not analyse it to death. It's a beautiful film. |
