I have the Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S. It came with my ASUS M70Vm laptop computer. It played Blu-ray movies fine for a long time (at first I used WinDVD 9, now I have TotalMedia Theatre, both read the movies fine), but last week when I tried to watch U-571 it didn't recognize it. I put in a bunch of other BDs and they didn't work either. Anybody have solutions for me to try? I'm pretty desperate as my laptop is the only way for me to watch Blu-ray discs, and I've spent quite a lot on them.

It didn't come with any software; the drive came pre-installed. Yes, I believe so. I tried to update the drivers in the drive properties window but it said they were already up to date. |

Take it to a computer repair place and have them take a look at it.

My first standalone Blu-ray player did the same thing after about 18 months of continuous use. It still played DVD's and CD's fine, but it wouldn't even recognize Blu-ray discs anymore. You have a faulty drive for sure.

I have the same exact drive in my Vaio and the SAME exact problem. Only mine stopped reading blu-rays after I upgraded to Vista Ultimate. Reads/burns DVD's/CD's fine, Windows see's it as a BD drive, but it will not read nor windows will recognize the disc and it will just eject from the player. I've searched everywhere on the internet and still no solution.
btw prerich I tried installing TMT3 as you recommended in my thread and the problem still persists. I made a huge post there and it said it needed mod approval but never got approved... |

My wife upgraded her HP to windows 7 and has the same problem. She has the same drive in her HP DV5. If she figures it out I will post. If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

try this to see if the movies play, at least it will tell you if it is the player or hardware.

Does this happen a lot? Why would only the blu-ray functionality drop out and leave us with over priced CD/DVD-ROM drives?

Hi there,
Did anyone find a solution for this yet? I have a HP dv7 with that drive and I cannot play BDs (windows won't even recognize the disc, shows as if drive was empty), while DVDs and CDs work fine... Anyone please help ![]() Thanks |

Similar situation:
Yesterday, watched a Blu-Ray fine. Today, nothing. What was different? I "upgraded" to PowerDVD 9 (from 8). After that, it wouldn't recognize the Blu-Ray disk. I eventually ran a registry cleaner. PowerDVD 9 then recognized the BD. However, I "upgraded" to a version of PowerDVD that does NOT support BDs. You MUST have the Ultra version. Delux and Standard versions do not support Blu-Ray disks. This is not clear or obvious from their website unless you look at the version comparison. All the marketing/promotion on their site just genericly refers to PowerDVD 9 as being the ultimate HD movie player, but neglects to mention it has to be the Ultra version. So make sure you are using a Ultra verson of PowerDVD (8 or 9) needless to say, I am very irritated at Cyberlink right now. |

Hi Guys
This is my first post here and I hope I'm not too late to help. I found this forum by chance because I had the same problem as some of the guys here, I had a few blu ray discs that were working fine and then, all of a sudden, they just stopped and wouldn't play at all, not even recognized by Windows Explorer although DVD's and CD's worked okay. I read through this and other threads in the hope of a solution without success and then I saw a thread that mentioned the sensitivity of the blu ray lasers and how they had to be kept very clean indeed to work properly all the time. This made sense to me but I somehow thought that it couldn't be that simple but I thought, what the f**k, I have nothing to loose and so I tried it. I had a DVD lens cleaning disc and I put that on and ran through the routines on the disc to clean the lens. Without much hope I then put on one of my 'problem' blu ray discs and, to my shock, it worked!! Simple as that. Now all my discs work again. I hope this is some help to you guys, it can't hurt to try it. Please let me know how you get on. Best Regards Goodog |

I'm going thru the same thing with my $2200 Pioneer BDP-09Fd blu ray player.Lasted only several months, now it won't play any blu ray disc's.Sometimes if I try long enough,I mean reloading the blu ray disc enough times, sometimes I can get one to work.i also tried cleaning the laser. And that did'nt help.Sometimes it's just a coincedence that a disc work ed after somthing.
I can't believe this damn stuff! |
