For me it has been 95% Blu. I purchased Dexter Season 2 on DVD because my family shares TV season sets and most of them don't have Blu-Ray players yet. The only other time I consider DVDs anymore is with animated movies for the kids due to them having a DVD player in the van for road trips. Honestly though the only animated movies I've purchased lately have been Disney Blus with the DVD version included (Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Bolt). Hopefully other studios will follow suit with this practice so I don't have to consider one format or the other with future releases.

I do a search for the multi-page thread on this topic, then buy 100% Blu.

ever since i got the ps3 on launch, I've been buying everything on blu. If there's something I really wanna watch and its not available on blu, then i'll rent it on dvd.

I buy on blu if it's available. If not, I settle for the DVD. It's that simple.

Holy crap...hilarious!

To answer the original question: I do not buy anything new on DVD anymore. If it comes out on Blu (what doesn't?) and we/I want it, then we buy it on Blu. The wife bought Ice Age 2 the other day on DVD because it was on some nutty sale (apparently; I didn't ask what the price was), but when I came home that day and saw it on the TV she said "we got Ice Age 2, but not on Blu-ray. You can buy it on Blu-ray and we can send this one to my mom's." (our kids stay there while we work during the day, and the grandparents don't have a Blu-ray player yet)

It's nice to know she's starting to see the light. I mean she gave me permission to double-dip without prompting or guilt-tripping by me!

The only DVD's I buy are those in the $5-$10 bins at Wal-Mart, but I haven't done that in a while either! I buy all new releases on Blu-ray!

That's what they said about DVD's. I personally think it's ridiculous to by a regular DVD when Blu is available.

Yeah, I concur with this. If you own a Blu-ray player, and a movie you want to buy is available on Blu, just buy it on Blu. Period.

and not everything is on dvd either. as for buying dvd when bleu is available, that only works if the movie you want is on bleu. what if it isn't? do you wait then for the chance that it might be on bleu someday? i don't because there are some i don't think will ever make it to bleu. and plus i don't think i should i have to wait to watch a movie i want to watch. it's about the movies first and foremost.

I think that's a legitimate reason to buy a DVD. I think nowadays, though, just about everything that comes out does so with a Blu counterpart -- heck at this point, you might consider the DVD version to be the counterpart because everything is going Blu. So I guess at this point, the only question would be: what movie do you want to watch that isn't on Blu?

plenty. there's a whole bunch i own on dvd that have yet to go bleu and i doubt ever will. plus there are plenty of new movies and such that don't get a bleu counterpart. plenty of shows on dvd, concerts, music videos, and so on and so forth. heck i bought the complete x-files on dvd last year even though i owned a bleu-ray player and all. i don't believe that one will be forthcoming to bleu-ray for a good long while and i wanted to watch the show again. bleu-ray is capturing the marketplace, but it's still at a small rate. 80% of new movies make it to bleu but there is so much more content out there that doesn't. dvd still has a stronghold and will for some time. i fine with it, as i think both can coexist peacefully.

as Fightforthefuture said...... not every movie has had a DVD release yet..... but I agree.... If I don't own it, and want to own it.... if the Blu-ray exists, I'll certainly not even consider the option of buying the DVD..... if it costs too much on Blu-ray.... I'll wait.... but I won't buy the DVD.

I keep my DVDs though.... there are plenty of great ones......

For those who only own a couple hundred DVDs or less, they might think that cheap DVDs are a deal...... but for those with larger collections..... you think back upon the money spent, and how many Blu-rays are still on your wishlist

1) That's not a "classic"

2) Why can't you see it coming to Blu-ray soon? It was available on HD DVD.... so chances are, it's in the works

You think Half Baked is a "classic"? Do you know what "classic" means?
