Has there been a U.S. release of Murder on the Orient Express yet, or just the U.K. one?

It is controlled by Paramount in the US. Hopefully they release it or license it.

I have the UK disc, it looks great, if you're region-free.

What really pisses me off is that Paramount, even when they don't have worlwide rights to a film, can issue a region free disc, while Studio Canal can't.

Aren't most, if not all, Studio Canal discs region-locked though? I don't think that's unique to their MOTOE disc.

I saw Death on the Nile on HBO when I was a kid, and freaking LOVED how they revisited the same scene from different possibilities. I know, not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but that was the first time I had ever seen such a thing, and it was wowzers, like doors opening. So this is what movies can do....that sorta thing. Death on the Nile will always have a great nostalgic place in my heart, looking forward to the Branagh remake later this year (assuming that it's still happening).

He said in a recent interview to promote Artemis Fowl that he's currently working on post for it, he was meeting with Patrick Doyle who is currently writing the score.

I do wonder how on earth they will record the score. I read an article about how they recorded the score for the final two episodes of Mrs. America, which had to be done after lockdown. They recorded each instrument individually at each player's house and mixed them. I don't think that would be possible for a full orchestral score though, they stressed that those episodes of the show had extremely spare, intimate scores.

Honestly though, I'll be shocked if there are wide release films coming out this winter at all. I'll bet the film gets postponed.

What extras, if any, will they have? I wonder how the AV will compare with the UK release?

Yup, StudioCanal/Optimum are pretty adamant about region locking. There are exceptions such as "The Lavender Hill Mob", the remastered "The Third Man", and select "StudioCanal Collection" titles (Breathless, The Elephant Man, The Graduate, Pierot Le Frou to name a few).

Nope, never said so.

The double standard is that only Hollywood studios can release region free discs. Murder is not the case but Studio Canal owns worlwide rights of the majority of its catalogue and should be allowed to issue region free discs, especially when there's no interest to release these titles in region A.

Paramount does seem to be diving into their deep catalog to release a weird smattering of movies lately, so it's entirely possible.

Lucky you. I watched in on the German Agatha Christie set, and found it a glorified TV movie with some horrendous hamming. But I must clarify here that I am not a big fan of the Peter Ustinov films either, I love Albert Finney and David Suchet's Poirot interpretations.

Mirror Crack'd is certainly the worst of the lot. Lousy screenplay and too many American stars, as opposed to good actors.

Evil Under the Sun, by the same director, is a much more enjoyable film. It helps that there's a good writer behind it (Anthony Shaffer) and the cast, though less "stellar" can really act.

Hey, this is pretty good news. Had been thinking of importing these from the UK.
