Unhappy black bars ?

Just wondering why since I have a widescreen lcd tv, I still get a bar at the top and bottom of the screen, I thought that with Blue ray movies it would fill the entire screen, when I watch a widescreen version of a standard dvd it does fill up the screen.
Anyone as an idea ?

Depends on the movie, check the aspect ratio on the box. If it says 2:35 or 2:40 etc it will still have black bars on your screen. if it is 1:78 or 1:85 it will fill the screen. Cant find the link for the official post on this.

Movies are shot in various aspect ratios. Most of which are not 16:9. Some are very close while others are a bit more of a difference. What this means is that you are seeing the full movie as it was intended by the director.
